Someone to offer me advice needed please

Featured Replies

Im not very technically minded, but i am keen to learn how my car works and what does what. I also have alot of questions about my Fabia vRS which my dad wouldn't be able to answer, and i dont want to waste time at my local garage asking them.

Im hoping someone wouldn't mind nominating either there selves or suggesting someone who could help answer some of my questions regarding what does what on the car. Im not stupid, nor am i a complete novice about how the engine works but i dont want to waste everyones time starting a new thread every time i want to know somthing new.

If someone with a bit of patients doens't mind giving me some advice, ideally someone who has a fair knowledge on tuning cars, could pm me i would be very greatful.

Cheers in advance.

Jimb0.

Why not just ask questions on here? Great way for everyone to learn and also hear different opinions on things :D

The search function will also throw up a fantastic amount of information

ok well why not.

Im just gathering some information about what routes to go down about modding the furball.

Now i know blueflame and miltek are the way to go for after market exhausts, but heres the catch.

IF i was to mod the car it would be all above board, but i'd want it to look as stock as possible, so much so that it doesn't look different at all. Mainly because i dont want my father to find out ('what are you doing wasting your money, its fast enough as it is etc').

So its decatting it and/or doing somthing with the back box to make the flow freeeeeeeeerreeer?

Cat: Is it just a case of smashing the insides of the cat out to allow better air flow? Or removing the cat, and just having a stright pipe. Which will sound better? Will the smashing option echo too much?

Backbox: Is it just a case of opening it up, removing all the stuff from inside, and plumbing it stright though inside the stock back box itself?

Any advice, tips, past experiance would be wonderful.

Also comments regarding warrenty, and how far do they check would also be nice.

Cheers guys.

As for the exhaust if your not going to change it for a stainless one i'd leave it alone. Gains are very minimal anyhow even when removing the cat.

Of get a stainless one made up with a decat pipe with a standard look tailpipe.

if you take the innards out from inside the silencers it will make it really really noisey, also it may lead to a decline in performance....... back pressure, flow rates, and noiseyness are a fine balancing act.....

Get the Blueflame exhaust, and ask them to weld your tailpipe on. They have to weld a tailpipe on when making the system anyhow.

Snoopie, does that option offer the same performance benifits as a 6x4 blueflame tailpipe>? Any ideas what it would sound like?

The Miltek exhaust system is a bit cheaper, but i personally dont like the twin pipe, and its far from standard looking. Do they do the 'stealth' tail pipe instead (i think thats the oval one)?

Thanks for the suggestions so far, keep them coming its a great help.

tell your father to :finger:

Sorry got to stick up for Jimb0 here.

My dad comes on this Site (Radiotwo) and i get mithered to hell if i put a post up saying anything remotely silly, or if i say i would like a re-map.

He was discussing it with me the other day, and his words were

"What do you need a remap for, your car is fast enough"

Says the one with a 4.2 litre car!!!

I feel for you fella, and good luck getting your car sorted!!

BTW A remap is the way to go, if you dont want him to know, as he couldnt really find out.

Chris
