Octavia vRS TDI, worried about theft?!?

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

A few years ago I got a new vRS 1.8T Octavia. In my opinion a fantastic car, and I really enjoyed owning and driving it. However, little did I know but thieves also love them!! To cut a story short, I was burgled for the keys etc. As seem to be the way which cars with modern security are taken.

I am really fancying the new Octavia vRS TDI estate. :) However, I'm concerned that I'll be asking for the same to happen again.:thumbdwn:

Now I realise that there are loads of cars out there which get stolen. Ranging, from the exotic to the old and easy to steal. However, have many of you out there had experiences of attempted / or actual thefts of vRS's?? I'm hoping that mine might just have been an isolated event!

Unfortunately I can't garage the car, however I do live in a relatively good area etc, so it's not that I'm in the Bronx etc. however I can't help thinking, 'If I realy want to have the car... then somebody else will also!!!' ... If you know what I mean..

Any advice or experience shared would be appreciated!! Thanks

Hello and welcome

I really don't think you should spend the rest of your car driving days worrying about if your car is going to be stolen or not.

If you are really concerned then why not consider some other security options such as tracker or a wheel/steering clamp?

Thanks for your reply. It seem like a great forum here.

Yeh, I know what you mean! As a car enthusiast I shouldn't let the scum out there put me off enjoying something that I love.

I suppose the big problem is that I quite often work away from home, and the car is then left on the drive way. When I'm away my wife would be having 'kittens' worrying about the last time we were broken into for the keys. ...... As a family man it's a tricky one really!

I suppose that a good steering wheel lock is the best approach. Something highly visible, to make it look time consuming and also to make someone elses car look easier.

Trackers are good, for what they do. However, they only become useful after you've been broken into. If in doubt the thieves, then tend to park the motor up and observe it over a few days to see if anyone comes to recover it. Altenatively you here a lot of stories of the interior getting slashed up as the look for the tracker.

I might look at the Passat TDI 170 instead. .... Discreet but still with good umph!!

Skoda offer a transmission lock as an option I think.

As for being broken into - leave the keys near the door.

I've heard of a couple of Mk2's being targeted in Ireland, a couple succesfully. Its true about not letting them put you off or you'd never buy anything. You can't go wrong with a Chain, a Pole in the drive and a tracker, it may not stop them but it slows them down. While your away, maybe park it outside you next door neightbours house ;) , thats if ya don't like them of course.
