PLEASE HELP: driver side window is stuck in the open position

Featured Replies

Bought 2001 1.4 8V Fabia two weeks ago. Just fixed the thermostat housing because the engine temperature was not getting hot enough and now there is a problem with the electric windows!

The day after I picked up the car the controls on the driver side door for the windows didn't work properly. left and right buttons controlled right and left windows (ie wrong way round, but the windows did go up and down). The next day they had gone back to normal.

Tonight I have put the driver side window fully down (using the button) and now it wont go back up. Passenger side window works fine even with driver side controls. I then tried to get it to go up by using the key in the door lock but only the passenger window responds.

Could this be the common fault of the plastic clip that holds the glass in the correct place or something else?

Any help would be much appreciated because at the moment the window is fully down!

could be a fault on the central convenience system... you need to get a diagnostics check done really

do you think one of those cheap fault code readers would do it or should I invest in VAG.com ?

if you only bought it two weeks ago take it back to the plae you bought it from and get them to sort it out.... there may be another member of briskoda who lives near you who can vag-com your car if you ask nicely

I bought the car privately so I dont really have much come back. I've just phoned them this morning to ask if they had experienced any electrical problems, but apparently not.

I've now checked all the electric window fuses and the wiring between the door and the car all it all looks ok. I'm half way thru taking the interior door panel off now but struggleing to release the clips (or whatever there are) along the top (maybe the window is supposed to be in the up position to take the trim off!)

nah.... it makes no difference where the window is.... have you tried swapping the switches roun in case one of them is bust

I've now managed to get the interior door panel off. Yes your right it makes no difference where the window is. (I just needed to use a bit more force)

I haven't tried changeing the switches around because the window still wont go up when useing the key in the door lock barrel (so problem lies with control unit or motor?)

Do you know how to remove the next panel (the metal one) to access the window glass runners etc. I have removed all the bolts but there seems to be four plastic bits holding it as well.

If I could just get the window up that would be ok for a while until I can afford to get it looked at properly. Do you know which wires are for the motor? maybe I could apply 12V directly to the motor to get it move up.

Thanks for your replies so far.

yeah that should be ok.... just use a piece of speaker wire or somthing directly on the motor.... unless of course it is the motor that has stopped working:rolleyes:

The motor is fixed directly onto the control unit so no obvious wires for the motor. However there are only two thick wires which I would have thought would be for the motor. Anyway, I measured the voltage across them and it is always at 12 (so if they are for the motor then the motor must not be working).

I cant see a way of checking anything else so looks like I'll have to take it to a garage

I took it to an auto electrician and he says he doesn't know what's wrong with it! He said most likely to be the control unit but couldn't gaurntee it.

Anyway, he took the control unit off and applied voltage directly to the motor to get it back up.

If anyone else experiences a similar problem I would be very interested to hear about it.

Thanks.

Had the same problem with drivers window, only the controls didnt switch windows, i had the controls on the drivers side replaced as not would work, when i first got in to the car everything worked but after the second time putting up the drivers window it decided to stop, it will go down only.

i was told that it may be a safety feature, if the battery is disconected, then the car electricls have to be reset anyone know about this, my airbag light is on since then too.

only way to get the window up is to put 12v to the two connectors on the motor, you have to remove the control circuit board first from the motor assembly. or remove this whole part and pull the window up by hand and reattach the motor.

is ths a problem with the circuit board on the motor or what . . help please
