2000, 2002 differences

Featured Replies

i'm want to buy an octavia and i have 2 opportunities, 1 to buy a 2000 octavia, and other to buy a 2002, but the 2002 it's have a 40% higher price

i know it's a very open question, but i need to know what a the main differences between the 2000 and 2002 octavia.

main diferences in motors, suspention, etc.

does they have different motor? (i mean, are the diesels the same in the 2000 and the 2002 version?)

well, please help me with this i really want an octavia

:thumbup:Regards

Could you provide more infos about the 2 cars ?

Anyway, Octavia mk1 has 3 turbo diesel engines only: TDI 90CP (AGR), TDI 90CP (ALH) and TDI 110CP (ASV), all non-PD (Pompe-Duse).

ok, both are diesels tdi 90, sorry for not giving that info...

does the mk1 have the same motors along all the production years?

besides aesthetical differences are there other differences?

Regards

I have a Mk1a 03 model and my dad has a Mk1 00 model. The interior on the Mk1a has different clocks, IMHO much better to read. My engine does seem different to my dads, they are both 90bhp TDi but my engine revs up through the rev range much better (could be cause its newer though) but seems to have a much flatter torque curve, the earlier unit seems to have more low down torque, but runs out of steam earlier. Of the two, I'd go for the Mk1a, IMHO, better headlights too, and slightly better handling, but that could be down to the bigger wheels on my car.

Later car is newer and lower mileage (well d'oh!) ;)

More helpfully, is the later car to a higher trim spec? Post trim badge name, eg GL or Elegance.

Sounds like the 2000 will be a GLX and the 2002 car will be an Ambiente

Just another thought, I'm not sure but I don't think the 2000 model will come with a 6 disc CD changer as standard, my dads hasn't got one. Also, later model will probably have remote central locking, better interior lighting, and a rear wash wipe.

Well, to the first question I posted before: AGR has fix turbo and ALH variable turbo, everything else is the same (except the polution norm - AGR is Euro 2, ALH is Euro 3).

To the 2nd question: starting October 2000, Octavia mk1 received a face-lift. My suggestion: try get a newer Octi mk1, at least MY 2001.

Also, later model will probably have remote central locking, better interior lighting, and a rear wash wipe.

I have to say this feature is a "must" for Octi mk1 owners!

the 6 disc changer it's not a problem, i'll replace it any way......

besides what you say are there other things to have in mind, besides aesthetical, and the turbo?? are the motors different? suspention?

thanks for all your answers......:)

Other than the detail changes, and what has been mentioned about the different engine codes, in every day driving they are virtually the same tbh. Given the choice though I'd take a Mk1a purely because I think it looks a fraction better (better rear light clusters too), handles a touch sharper and has a better engine when pushing it. Strangely though, my dads car does seem quieter! Best piece of advise is to drive both cars back to back and see which you prefer, and decide if the Mk1a is worth the extra 40%.

ok, i'm thinking in something that is very common in my country (Dominican Republic), i friend of mine changed the front and back bumpers of his 2002, and he have the original bumpers at home, can i put them in to a 2000 octy without too mayor problems? can this be done with the rear lights too?

Thanks

The 1 to 1a facelift didn't change the structure as far as I know. In which case the rear bumper will be a straight bolt-on replacement; the front I'm not so sure about because the grille insert on the bonnet (hood) might have changed. Lights I'm not sure about either, but if your friend has a 1a then you could use his car and parts as templates to check with.

The lights are a different shape at the bottom on the facelifted models so the bumpers aren't a straight swap.

Ok Alex; pretty much everyone I know with an Octy I can sit mine beside has a facelift model too (or several; one of them has a taxi firm).
