Not unless fitted as an option

It has ABS though, doesn't it?

Nope

Why would you want traction control on a 1.4 ?

Why would you want traction control on a 1.4 ?

1.4 MPI is quite a torquey engine

I did once see a Fabia 1.4 16v Automatic with optional traction control,

Who ever specced it with that is in need of phyciatric help:D

In finland 1.4 74kw comes with ASR...

Its a nice little feature at wintertime when all roads are covered in ice and snow.. (you can easily see ARS light flashing at speeds of 100kmh)

Why would you want traction control on a 1.4 ?

Why would you want Skoda's ASR on any car?!?! It's bloomin' awful

Chris

There's an easy way to check, 4000rpm, select first gear and drop the clutch.

Other clue is if it has it will have a switch next to the heated rear window with 'ASR' written on it. You could also check for ABS in a similar brutal manner but make sure nobody is behind you.

i thought that all fabia's had abs as standard???

I had an X reg 1.4 100bhp Fabia with Traction Control

The reason why I ask is just to try and compare what you get for your money wwith the Fabia.

I doubt traction control is actually useful , but its good to have!

What equipment does the Fabia come with /

Check out Parker's under reviews and there is a side-by-side comparison of the specs of each of the Fabia's trim levels which is (mostly) correct :D

Yes it does, as does every single motor car, except those made by exempted small manufacturers like TVR, as it is a legal requirement for ABS to be fitted in Europe. So it is there, believe me, even on a Hyundai Getz.

ASR traction control is standard on 1.4 16v and 1.9Tdi engined Ambiente and Elegance. Why wouldn't you want traction control? Anything that aids safer driving is a boon. Just because it helps to stopp wheel spinning starts?

Because ASR is rather brutish in how it manages traction. ESP - yes. ASR - I'd rather take my chances without it ;)

All mainstream cars sold today have it. It was an optional extra up until 2002-ish. I suspect that would be around the time it had to be standard anyway as fireftrm has pointed out. My wife's 51-plate 1.4 MPi Comfort does not have ABS - I know this for a fact :o

I have worked on Fabias that dont have ABS so no it wasnt standard.

Easiet way to check, ignition on do you have an ABS light?

If you have ASR there will be a switch on the dash to de activate it.

i dont if this is right or not, but the asr switch on my dash activates it.... when you first switch on the ignition the asr is deffinately off.... maybe it's been altered using vag-com or somthing by the previous owner??

When the warning light in between the speedo and rev counter is on, ASR is off, sounds **** about face but it is right, when it kicks in the warning light flashes.

yeah that's right.... when i come out of the multi-storey on the way home from work sometimes, if the surface is wet, it kicks in and the dashboard lights up like a leaking gaspipe........ on mine the light is off permanantly when it's switched off, light is on when it's switched on, flashes when it kicks in

I dont know how it can be altered Tom but ASR is on from the outset, its a safety system the same as ABS and airbags so it always on by default.

Switching the switch deactivates the system, when the light is ON the dash the system is off, same as if the system had a fault.

The light should be off on the dash unless the system is operating.

the abs , airbag, asr lights come on when the ignition is switched on, but they all go off again straight away after about a second, to be honest i read the hand book, and the hand book says that it should be on automaitcally(with the light off).... it's really strange, also when the light is on(switched on in my case) the acceleration is a little slower, also when the asr activates it flases and the dash sounder also beeps, but the asr seems to work perfectly, no wheel spin at all

ABS Was Standard on All Fabias from May 2002,

For this to be supplemented with ASR and EDL was a £50 cost option,

As Standard Any 1.4MPI or 1.9SDI in the UK before that date was NOT fitted with ABS unless as an option

I beleive it became UK law in 2004 that any standard production car needs to be equipped with ABS

So It is possible it has it if it was ordered with it, and as said in a previous post a quick ckeck of the dash lights, or a bloody good emergency stop will soon tell you.

To Be honest, it was very tight of Skoda to not offer it as standard, almost all other manufacturers at the time were offering it standard, come to think of it most of them would have given you a CD player too

abs was standard on fabia's after 2001 i found out the hard way!

My Feb 2000 MPI does not have ABS or ASR , no CD player either.
