Hi to all! Fabia seeking intelligent doctor

Featured Replies

New member who loves his partner and quite likes the Fabia she owns. Loads of miles to the gallon/litre (whichever you prefer) and a comfortable ride too. Engine copes with most situations.

However, nothing lasts forever! I still love my partner, but her Fabia is a bit sensitive (forgive the innuendo). The temperature gauge has become unrelliable, often indicating no rise in temperature at all. I wondered if the sensor sends a signal to the engine managment unit also, as the performance of the car has taken a turn for the worse (poor economy and loosing power, lumpy). My instinct is to replace the sensor, but I can't help wondering if perhaps the thermostat may be sticking open also.

Any views?

From that description, you're on the right lines. If the car has a conventional heater rather than climate, does the heater still work properly?

Yes - temperature sensor

No - thermostat.

Car has air conditioning, rarely used! Heater has been a bit hit and miss over the last few months, sometimes a little cold other times like a furnace. I guess the sensor is giving out a lot of duff information. I suppose it could even be possible that dirt has contaminated the thermostat and sensor? Changing the sensor won't be a problem for me, and judging from the relative height of the thermostat housing that shouldn't give me any problems iether? Or, am I going to have to invest in a Hayne's manual?

Cheers

Climate can be a bit hit or miss (and doesn't warm up a cold car as fast as a heater does) IME. Seems more like the sensor than the stat I think. No idea how to change it; I don't even own a Furbie!

Not entirely sure this is a serious post (viz. Advice needed), but if it is, all you need to know about replacing the temperature sensor is here! Depending on the exact model of Fabia, it can vary from dead easy to slightly tricky, but shouldn't present any major issues if you decide on the DIY approach...

HTH

I've seen similar gauge behaviour in other cars, caused by a duff engine temperature sender.

Was a serious post! First time I've used such a furum. Wow, got a result.

Thanks for advice.

Cheers ears.

Welcome to Briskoda and good luck with the DIY. :D

Good luck mate.. hope all goes well :D

If you can find someone nearby with VAG-COM, get the diagnostic codes read off and see if it reveals any broken sensors. :D Also, what engine does it have, as I believe the 1.4 is prone to temp sensors popping....

Welcome to Briskoda

Welcome

Yes similar problem here 1.4 2001 8v model. Sensor been changed by Skoda dealer and then again by local garage now temp gague not working or pleases itself. I am increasingly ****ed off about this as the temp goes up and down in the car too. It annoys me that it just does not seem to be sorted by two garages however the latest thing they saying is now the thermostat and gague are knackered they gonna change them soon. Hope this is an end to the prob luckily however the car is under a second warranty i bought before the last one ran out. My knoledge of cars n mechanics is none
