Performance 1.9sdi vs 1.4tdi

Featured Replies

Hi, new member, first post. Don't know much about cars, so I thought I'ld ask you guys.

I have a Cordoba Vario with a 1.9sdi engine. I'm thinking of buying a Fabio Combi next year and was wondering how the 1.4tdi performs compared to my 1.9sdi...

I don't really need a fast car, but I also need it to get to mountainbike races. The sdi is okay for getting around town, but feels slow when I have it stuffed with people, bikes and equipment and try to climb steep hills with it in the Belgian Ardennes.

The 1.9tdi isn't that much more expensive, but there is also a tax difference over here in favor of the 1.4tdi engine.

The 1.4 is a better drive than the sdi,

The 1.4tdi has more power, more torque and isn't as rough sounding. I'd imagine it's better on emissions and will undoubtedly give better fuel economy being 10 years newer.

The 1.9SDi is a dog.

I did find a comparison on the Seat homepage between the sdi and both 70 and 80 hp tdi engines. The 80 hp is a lot better. But I would probably buy the 70 hp, since that's the one the Fabia Combi First package has, which offers a lot of value for the money. The 70 is also slightly better, but I wonder if an average driver can actually feel this when driving.
