Featured Replies

hi, i am looking at getting a 2000 reg fabia comfort 1.4 (not the 16v version) i was just wondering if this model comes with abs or not?

thanks a bunch :)

No - No ABS

Make sure power steerin is working and electrics are good.

thanks for the advice!

ABS came in as standard around 2001/2 I think just not on the first models...as I discovered. I had a 2000 reg Classic

i have 2001 1.4mpi 8v and it doesnt have abs, abs was standard 2002! 1 thing i would do if you are going to buy this model is take it for a test drive and see what the power steering is like the steering on my car was heavy with resulted in the steering rack being replaced which cost £550!

No ABS on by 2002(52) Classic. I think it might have been an option back then, but not standard.

our ( crap ) '51 plate doesn't have ABS, not bothered though - don't need it. :)

Not on mine either , 2000 V MPi Comfort 8V.

2000 plate, X reg, 1.4 16v with ABS

Back in those days the ABS was linked to trim, not engine.. so classics (which were only 8V's) had no ABS, Comforts (16V) had ABS as standard.

Heard too many horror stories about the 8V's to like them (like the fact it is a Skoda engine not VAG like the 16V)

Personally I would get a 16V if you can afford the bit extra. 2000 reg shouldnt be much of a difference.

ho hum.

i would have gone for the 16v if it wasnt for the insurance group! unfortunatly wih me having a bump in my second year of driving (last month) the next time it comes round to re-insuring it will cost a lot as it is on a group 3 car, let alone a group 6 :( im sure ill live ^^

Ah ok!

Makes sense. Maybe when you've got some more no claims under your belt you might be able to upgrade? I was quite suprised by my insurance quotes, but it's quite shocking just how much quotes can vary from person to person!

Hope you are getting on well with your new purchase.. Did you work out the colour yet? I'm pretty sure it's Nature Green, as back in 2000 there were only 2 greens and the other was the very pale one. (Fantasy Green).

If you are interested, here is the technical data for your car -

:)

No probs with the 8V engine in mine , its 7 years old , doesnt use a drop of coolant or oil , and starts first time , every time! Plus its got a timing chain , so no big cambelt change service to fork out for!!

ah great stuff guys! ill pop down to my local skoda garage and find out the colour for the touch-up, nature green is most likley right :P and yea hopefully with a couple of years no claims i should be able to upgrade :P hopefully the 1.4 PD :D

Just watch out for the electrical faults.

I got a 2002 51 plate 1.4 MPI 8v and it's had just about every fault on the planet that are "common" to Fabias. :thumbdwn:

Right now, I've got the engine management warning lit up and it's booked in again for the garage tomorrow. So far, I've only managed 5,000 miles that weren't trouble free.

If I had the choice over again, I'd probably not get a Fabia, disappointing after the reliability of my old Felly. Think I would of looked at a Jap hatch instead.
