Power Steering and Alternator

Featured Replies

Has anyone else experienced this PAS problem and found this Alternator fault as its cause?

Engine starts but PAS light remains on and PAS does not work

Leave engine running for anything between 10 seconds and 10 minutes then PAS light goes out and PAS works

PAS remains ok for the rest of the journey

Car used for daily commute of 50 miles return mainly motorways/rural dual carriageways at 70pmh in 5th gear

One year old battery showing "low voltage" and replaced with factory spec battery but problem remains.

Connection to alternator (near gearbox?) found to be broken and replaced.

Problem now seems to be solved ( I hope)

Yep, has been mentioned and covered a few times on here, alot recently.

I did take some pictures of the problem connector sometime ago but I think they have been lost now.

Hi Lummox

I had seen your post on the broken connector causing a discharging battery which led me to ask my garage to check the connectors (so many thanks for that tip).

I hadn't found any posts directly linking this broken connector to the specific PAS fault on my car, hence my post.

I spoke too soon

The problem has not gone way

Took it back to the main dealer who told me the pump has gone and quoted nearly

Before taking the dealers word for it that the pump has gone and going the trade in route, I'd be very tempted to get someone with Vagcom to check for any fault codes, it could be something as simple as the steering angle sensor which is another very common fault on the Fabia. :)
