Octavia 1.8T - Some questions about my new car

Featured Replies

Hi all,

just bought an Octy Mk 1 2002, 1.8 T Auto, Elegance spec. Love it.

But I was just wondering about a few things.

What does the ASR button do? The manual tells me about TCS and other things but not ASR.

Also, the headlamp leveller wheel only moves up and down the passenger side light. Are the motors easy to fix? The drivers side light stays up so with a load I can't drop both lights down.

Also, would it be worth it to put in a bixenon HID kit? Car has headlamp washers on it.

ASR = traction control. Press it to turn it off - when switched off a light will illuminate on the dash.

That's what I thought, but I don't get a light on the dash when I press it. Do I need to be stopped to press it?

To what extent does the traction control work then?

asr is a crap version of traction control which sometimes borders on being dangerous

the headlamp level problem is quite popular my seem to have a mind of their own at the moment not sure what is the problem i think its the motors playing unsure as to how much to fix

hth

You dont have to be stopped to turn it off. The only time you cant turn it off is whilst it is in action.

re headlights

I simply use rally bulbs, a much cheaper way of getting more light, slightly illegal but seeing as you can drive round these days with lights missing you are unlikely to be stopped, Ive run them in this & the previous car which totalls about 5 years
