Help needed to install MFD2 - please!

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'd originally hoped my dealer would be able to fit my newly acquired (actually, it's in the post but should be here soon) Skoda MFD2 into my new Octavia vRS TDi but he forgot to mention that he would be charging for it waaaaaaay above mates rates!

So, is anyone within say 50miles of Wirral that would be interested in helping me install it? I'm pretty sure it's a quick job, but I don't have access to VAG-COM or even the tools to extract the old radio. I might have misinterpreted the instructions on Stu's excellent site ( Octavia-vRS.com - MFD2 Install Guide ), but is VAG-Com actually required? I've asked the dealer if he will loan me the appropriate radio extraction tools and I await his email reply. Also, my car is a 2007 model year, so it has the aux input which might mean a mod somewhere or other (it's all in the instructions).

So, if you can help, I'll obviously drive to you and a time to suit you! And there'll be a few beers, few bottles of your favourite or a few quid (take your pick) if you assist me. I'm not a weirdo, so you don't have to worry about explaining to your significant other who the saddo is in the brand new Octavia outside your house

Here's hoping :handshke:

Dave.

Hi Dave,

As someone who has done this the tools required are minimal. 1 Torx T20 screwdriver and a flat blade e.g. steel rule.

I started to write how to do it and then read Stu's site and realised I had written everything he had so I stopped. It is very straightforward.

If I lived near the Wirral I would help but alas I am a long way away.

Good Luck, I am sure someone will come along who can help.

You don't need any radio extraction tools, they are torx screws. Your unit may well work without coding as long as it was coded correctly by the previous incumbent. You'll still have fault codes but they shouldn't affect the operation in the short term.

Your Skoda dealer should be able to code it once fitted if you can't find somone with VAG-COM.

When are you taking the plunge?? I can PM you my helpline number :P if you like but I'm not often available during the working days, evenings and weekends are ok though.

Hi Stu,

Which of the following parts do I need to order?

1Z0 858 069 B 9B9 - Trim for climatic switch for vehicles with navigation system satin black - £4.76
1Z0 858 069 F 9B9 - Trim for climatic switch for vehicles with navigation system satin black - £4.76
1Z0 858 069 C 9B9 - Trim for climatronic switch for vehicles with navigation system satin black - £4.76
1Z0 858 069 L 2AU - Trim for climatronic switch for vehicles with navigation system bright aluminium - £15.65
1Z0 858 069 G 9B9 - Trim for climatronic switch for vehicles with navigation system satin black £4.76
1Z0 858 069 Q 2AU - Trim for climatronic switch for vehicles with navigation system bright aluminium - £

7M0 035 727 - 18 Pin Media Connector - £2.40

My car is a standard vRS TDi with standard fitted radio but I don't get it until 01st March. The first two parts seem to have an identical description but with different part numbers

Cheers, and I appreciate your help!

Dave.

Do you have Climatic or Dual Zone?

I have Dual Zone and used 1Z0 858 069 L 2AU which fits fine.

Oops, it's dual climate. So I only need to buy one piece of trim? I fancy black so I could order either 1Z0 858 069 C 9B9 or 1Z0 858 069 G 9B9? I don't need the media connector as that's already in the car?

Cheers,

Dave.

I live in Warrington and retro fitted my own mfd2 to my vRS, would be happy to help out.

Tony, you're a star :) I get the car on the 01st March, so first time that's convenient for you would be great. I'll PM you with my contact details, but we've got a bit of breathing space in the meantime for me to order the trim from my dealer. Is it worth investing in a better GPS antenna?

Cheers!

Dave.

I was waiting to see if you popped up Tony, but I thought i'd wait for you to volunteer yourself  .

You don't need the media connector.

Black - Are you sure??? The rest of your trim will be silver.

PM superted, he supplied my GPS Antenna at a very reasonable price.

Hi Stu, a GPS antenna is coming with my MFD2, I was just wondering if the one that superted supplies is considered superior in some way?

Made a mistake on the trim colour, in my head the vRS is black inside, that's because I'm still driving around in an 04 Elegance :) You're right, silver will be better! I've only seen the vRS for a short amount of time, for as long as it took me to say "yes, I'll have it" ;)

Cheers,

Dave.

I have used the GPS antenna supplied with the unit and it has been fine. It is a mag mount one that I have "stuck" to the alloy crash bar behind the top box using No More Nails double sided sticky pads.

I originally had it mounted on the side of the dash and also on the centre of the dash and it performs as well where it is now. I would at least try it before spending anymore cash.

How long till your bargain Nav unit arrives?

  • Author

He told me about 7 working days, used autopark777 on eBay. Probably mid next week, hopefully!

He's got another one about to end in about 12 minutes, no bids so far, it might go for the same price I paid again!

Dave.

That was a bargain.

Auction now ended £249 bargain price, Think the market for MFD's has slowed down.

I just bought one off autopark777 as well for 249 quid. What did you pay Dodgy?

  • Author

I paid £249, too.

Dave.

They are sure getting cheaper.

Actually that is my one in the link above!!
