VRS TDI fuel consumption and other questions

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, newbie here, so hopefully won't ask too many stupid questions - I test drove a VRS TDI today and am now quite keen on getting one, but just want to check a couple of things:

1) As I have a 180 mile a day commute, does the fuel consumption really live up to the book "combined figure" of 49.6mpg? I know it depends how you drive but let's say on an average tank (bit of motorway cruising, bit of heavy footed fun on country roads, sitting in traffic etc etc)

2) I am considering getting the 18" B14's but really want to see a pic of them on a Race Blue car (can't find one anywhere, loads on black but none on blue). Can anyone point me in the right direction?

3) How much is the servicing? (I would hope to have it set to long period servicing, but would be interested to know which is most cost effective). The dealer didn't really give me a definitive price.

Cheers everyone,

Dave.

I have had mine for about a month and have done 1500 miles so far..best I had ona sigle trip was 48mpg in a straight run from Bournemouth to Portsmouth..

I reckon I am averaging about 39 to 40 mpg which considering I am 'running in' is slightly disappointing....although beats my last cars 20mpg by some margin:)

Hi there. I've also had my octavia vRS TDi for about a month and i'm really happy with it. I have an 8 mile journey to work through some villages, a quick blast up to 60, back through a village up to 60, etc. All on country roads. I'm currently getting 40 to 45 mpg on that run. Last week me and my wife drove to Doncaster from Carlisle to visit some of her friends and managed 47 to 49 mpg at motorway speeds. And some of that was on cruise control. I'm very happy with it. I have 18 inch wheels on mine, and it race blue. I can send you a picture if you'd like.

If they're the B14's then yes please, I really want to see them on race blue before I decide to choose them.

Cheers!

I don't know that many people have specced the B14's. I've only seen the ones on the car that is pictured on here.

Mine are the Zenith's are they what your meaning.

No, I've seen the Zeniths, it's the B14's I need to see.

Thanks anyway,

Dave.

Theses are the photo I guess you have already seen 18" - B14s (dealer fit):-

This is Progress Skoda's (Bedford) vRS TDI present demonstrator; based on this and the looks of the B14s I have ordered my Red vRS from them with B14s.

Their previous vRS TDI demonstrator, which they sold in early January was a Race Blue Hatch with B14s and the wheels sold the car (they said, may have just be patter but totally plausible). I saw the car in their workshop and it did look absolutely fantastic with the B14s; the high polish smoky anthracite finish looked even better on the Race Blue than it does on the Black. :D:cool: and IMHO will look BEST on the Red.

If you call, or visit, them and talk very nicely, maybe mention Briskoda 'cos they are responsive to us, they might be able to contact the Race Blue Blue buyer and put you in touch.

Ditto - re Fuel consumption figures quoted.............

Averaging 40-45 generally and have had as said - 49 on long motorway stints on cruise.

Have not used the Shell expensive diesel as yet, but that's my next fill-up point and see what happens after a couple of tanks of theirs to see what happens.

This is the demonstrator that I drove yesterday, and hence why I am now considering those wheels too ;)

Didn't take too long for me to decide to get them; main point I considered, after the fact they look absolutely great :D:cool: is - if you have zeniths who but an 'anorak' will know you've got 18" not 17" wheels.

On fuel consumption - I had the trip computer set on my two test drives and got 38 - 41mpg with both times the car being driven briskly. 40mpg plus ought to be a realistic prospect on a gentle M'way run; worth getting cruise control to help keep your speed steady.

Hi.

On Thursday this week I drove to a town called Helmond a few Km from Eindhoven. Had a short meeting then on Friday dove home. It was an 800 mile round trip and perfect to test fuel consumption. Its not a Vrs but a 2.0TDi 140hp L&K model. I averaged 51mpg for the trip running @ 70-80ish sometimes a bit slower

Using the same logic then, who but an anorak will know whether your B14s are 17" or 18"?

Don't get me wrong, they look great, but I didn't get the 18" zeniths just so I could say 'look at, I've got 18" alloys...'. I got them because they just look better aethetically IMO.

The B14s will be a rarer sighting though so that's another good reason to have them :)

Well thought out Jonno; I knew there was a hole in my arguement somewhere; Doh. :o

You're right though; I've ordered them 'cos they really do look so much better than the Zeniths plus from a practical point of view they will be a lot easier to keep cleen as less spokes to work on.
