Bonjour!!

Featured Replies

G'day everyone. My name is Andrew and i live near Swansea in South Wales.

Currently driving a Ford Mundano (zzzz) but when its dry and sunny i drive my 1984 Ford Capri 2.8i (please dont laugh!).....

Seriously thinking of changing the V6 mondeo for a Skoda Octavia Vrs. I absolutley love the look of them and desperatley want one in the future (even though i havent even driven one yet!!!)

Any buying tips and hints on what to look out for on a used Vrs would be very much appreciated!

Thanks

Andrew

Welcome to Brisky Anndrew. I love the Capri 2.8. I went out with a guy who used to have one and on occasion (when he wanted a drink) he let me drive it. bit scary in the wet though:D

hell yeah......very scary in the wet!!!

Welcome,

You can't beat an old Capri.

I'd take the vRS any day, but I have a Fabia vRs and was considering moving up.

You should be able to find a second hand one about but the difference in the price means it's almost as good to have a new one. It's the same with the fabia, you could be talking a few hundred quid extra for a new one.

There should be a few of the old model vRs about if that's what your looking for.

Go and drive one, try them both, I prefer ther diesel one, but that's just cos I have the Fabia.

to be honest, ive never had a diesel and have no intention of gettin a diesel. i drive a diesel van to work and thats quite enough for me! obviously modern diesel engine cars are no longer slow noisy smelly things, i appreciate that, but call me old fashioned, you cant beat a big powerful gas guzzling petrol engine!

ive heard so many good things about the octavia vrs and there doesnt seem to be anything bad to say about them. hopefully they are very reliable and servicing quite reasonable?

the only problem i have is that the dragon (i mean the missus) already says that the mondeo is too big...........the octavia isint exactly small is it??? im thinking of buying her a small car, selling the capri and gettin myself a nice new vrs to run around in.

sound a good plan??? :-)

Welcome to Briskoda.

Petrol is good, but I go for the low down Torque which means i don't have to rag it to make good progress and also the good MPG means I can get along a bit and not worry about the cost of fuel.

The engine in the vRS is not common rail so it's going to be louder than other makes but VAG are introducing a common rail later this year which should be good.

Just try the Diesel one and compare it to the petrol, won't be anything like a van Diesel.

The petrol engine is the same 197 bhp as the golf GTi and it's also on the same chassis, so it should handle good.

Depending upon what small car you are talking about? Do you mean a Fabia vRS or a standard one? or maybe not even a Skoda.

If you are remotely thinking of a Furby vRS, then you only have 1 choice, The run out Race blue edition. you will have to be quick to get one of those as well. :)

Speaking to my local dealer yesterday, he cannot order any more Mk1 furby's.

well the missus quite likes the peugeot 307 so i might get her one of those and myself an octavia vrs. will take your advice though and test drive both the petrol and diesel versions.

Yes, just give them a whirl, it won't cost anything and it's up to you at the end of the day.

It all depends upon whether you want the smooth power delivery across the whole rev range or a bucketfull of torque to push you in the seat from the off. I like the latter as it takes people by surprise when they are in the passenger seat, especially when they have hold of a drink.

If the missus doesn't want a Skoda, what about a Fiesta or Focus, they can be more reliable than Peugeot and cheaper to repair?

I'm just remembering being about half a mile out of a roundabout (wet road) doing 70 (indicated), glancing in my rear-view mirror and seeing a Capri 2.8i very sideways on the roundabout. I finished my overtaking move, and pulled in, just in time to be passed by said Capri at over the ton!
