Knocking noise

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 2001 Octavia 4x4 hatchback and this crops up every now and again and makes me sweat a little when I hear it. Normally happens when I'm being lazy and leaving it in top gear at low speed then use full throttle to accelerate. Sounds like a knocking noise from the NSF as opposed to engine noise (thank god). Its regular in its pattern when it occurs and sounds like probably some sort of rotary related noise.

Anyone else expereinced this or have a clue what it might be? Just trying to reassure myself or make me consider putting it in a garage for inspection.

Any thoughts? The handling of the vehicle isn't affected at all when this noise occurs

Sometimes the exhaust hits the floor on 4x4s but usually only when very hot and driving through slush or puddles. Had a new centre section on mine for this reason when still under warranty. The garage told me it was an uncommon fault of all VAG 4x4 cars on this chassis. Scary loud knocking noise but in any gear so maybe not related. You could feel it through the floor!

That does sound like it could be the very same. I havent noticed it recently, even when trying to induce it yesterday. It does seem to come from the floor, might be the same then. Thanks

*There is another similar thread to this which I have just replied in!*

But I think I have the same problem, a metallicy noise (kinda like a chain bouncing off the floor every so often) Really weird....

Ive been under mine and wiggled/poked everything but too no avail. I swear Ive read somewhere that its the anti roll bars??
