Anyone possibly answer this one?

I've searched the forum (stickies and posts) and can gather that i require 4.3 litres of 505.01 spec PD oil (5w40)...

is it possible to use a fully synthetic oil (0w40) in the PD engines? (i know that it is thinner when cold)

If anyone actually uses 0w40 in their Fabia vRS, can they recommend a brand (not fussed about cost!)

It really needs to conform to VW 505 01

All of them listed are 5W40 so I guess that answers your question, the choice of PD specced oil is quite vast so take your pick. Why would you want to use a thinner oil anyway? There are no big advantages.

In this country a 0w40 is not really needed (as it's not really cold enough) and the gap is wider than ideal between hot and cold viscosities. A 5w40 oil will suffer less polymer breakdown than a 0w40 oil and requires less additivies to make it resilient.
