aquamist/ water spray?

Featured Replies

has anybody tried one of these systems yet ;a jet that sprays a fine watermist over the intercooler thus cooling further

I want one for my TDI, but it will work very differently. Instead of spraying the IC to cool it down, it actually injects water in with the turbo charged air and works by cooling the engine a bit and reducing EGTs. Works in a "preservation" way really.

TaviaRS had one. Do a search, I'm sure you'll find some references to it.

hmm done a search and found

ic waterspray for £14 not a bad idea think i am going to try a modified version of this or have a seperate bottle and pump

aquamist isn't a I/C cooler, its water injection that sprays a super fine mist of air into the inlet tract after the I/C to cool the charge air and help against detonation.

:)

i very very nearly got one a little while ago :)

yes i know used to run aquamist on an rs turbo few years back .bad car i know:O

was just wandering what people had experimented with

I just posted some details on another thread yesterday - the intelligent waterspray controller kit from Jaycar electronics in Aussieland is great.

It's a DIY soldering kit and it senses ambient temp, IC temp and how hard you're driving to spray only when needed. Will drop temps a further 12 deg IIRC. Since fitting my Forge FMIC I haven't had to use it yet - temps are around 30 deg only now. With the old SMIC it made a night and day difference at 37-40 degrees C ambient out here!

If you need any tips, drop me a PM mate

how much was it?

Funny, can't see a listing on their website anymore. IIRC the kit was around Aussie $ 70.

Not sure where I saw it, but you can get CO2 cooling kits also. They run on a small bottle of liquid CO2, which flows through a heat exchanger, too cool your fuel, and is then exhausted over your IC, oil cooler, radiator or wherever, at sub zero temps. Has a hugh cooling affect, but isn't so easy to get refilled.

my mate did something similar when at santa pod but he just used a fire extinguisher on his mates car :)
