Power Gasket

Featured Replies

As you probably know, I have fitted the Power Gasket (New South Performance), which I bought from awesome-gti.

Yesterday, as I was surfing in the net, I saw the following in IZVW's site :

WARNING: THIS PART MELTED CAUSING A BLOCKAGE IN MY FIRST CYLINDERS INTAKE PORT. I CAN NO LONGER RECOMMEND THIS PART!

Some pictures of the disaster:

Now a close up on cylinder one's section, look how it melted inwards! This blocked the injector.

Although I don't recomend using this part this howto will be left up for those of you who are going to install it anyway.

That can't be a good result :(

but was it fitted correctly?

had mine of for 10k miles with no prob not that i expected any???

got this part fitted on my cupra, after fitting it myself I found it to be nigh on impossible to fit it incorrectly as the gasget has to engage the bolts etc so it will take in the first place.(mine was a very tight fit)

from the pic though the gasget does look very badly burnt,as though the holes in the gasget where too small for the cylinders as they all appear badly burnt not just the melted one! correct type gasget fitted????

As with any mods certainly ones engine wise, they need regular checking etc to prove they are still working as they were intended and not burnt to a crisp ala pic 1

btw-my gasget works very well

Mine was on for 17k miles before I sold the car, no problems here either.

Going on from what Deejay said...did this have the big port head (this is not a ported head, if you know what I mean)?

I think the earlier 1.8T had large inlet ports and the later ones were much smaller.

Would be a bit silly to fit a gasket that overlaps the ports.
