What next for my 1.9TDI Octy

Featured Replies

hey i want to do something to my octavia. i have a couple of ideas so can anyone help

1. More acceleration/speed- not sure how to do this as it is already remapped from 90bhp to 120bhp so what could i do next?

2. Fix the brakes- with 18inch alloys undeer hard braking i notice fade i think so i would like to sort this but again how?

3. Handling- anything would do ideas?

i know lots of posts about making the vrs and petrol models faster but not so much for deisels. So can anyone help for prices for the above and also where i can get the bits anyone recomends. Any help would be brill. Now i can do stuff to it as i no longer have warrenty

Why not try the fabia section as it is the same engine in the vRS.

Acceleration - remap or get one of those tuning boxes

Brakes - get bigger ones or just go for uprated pads etc

Handling - similar improvement that people make to their octy vrs, surely?

i'd suggest speaking to one of the tuners to see if vRS disks, calipers and pads could be used on your TDi, that will give you the stopping you need.

Maybe look at improving the air intake and look at another remap. PD130 Fabias are making more like 170-180BHP with just a remap from places like Jabba or JBS.

Handling wise you could check with a tuner while your asking about the brakes to see if the suspension kits for the vRS would fit your model as well...

2) Since it's a remapped 90, I think you'll need to change the calipers and possibly the hubs or hub carriers to get bigger than 280mm fronts, which are frankly just about adequate for road driving with 110bhp, so at minimum you'd be looking at new caliper brackets, discs and uprated pads I'd say. No real point in uprating the rears though since they only provide about 10% of the braking effort on an FWD car.

3) This is tricky, cos there's not much other than ARBs with suitable spring rates for the diesel.

ok i will do th brakes 1st as they r my biggest concern. i can only do the front as the back is drums unless i can get rid of them. so what brake disks will fit as since i gusee it will be bigger what calipers and pads would i need. i was told that all i can do is the airfilter as the engine couldnt taje anymore of a power hike is this true?

that's the big prob m8. finding an expert. try on " ask a tech" wot size of disc's will fit. wot size r they now? seen a thread a wile ago bout rear disc change. do a search, mite not be worth it. if u get bigger disc's on that should soffice. :D

If you've already had a remap, then your into bigger Turbo and injectors territory I'd imagine

Edit: Some one on this forum has claimed to get 180bhp out of a 90bhp TDI Seat....

Not sure how without spending mega bucks though

 fock getting them figures from a 90bhp? i can't get that from a 130bhp  he's spent big buck's on that. ;) i see he's from ulster, mite meet him on the road sometime. :D

Biggest discs that will fit with 15" rims are 288s, 312s will just fit inside 16" with the standard VAG calipers, but as earlier you'd be looking at changing hubs and/or carriers to go past 288s using VAG parts.

To get 4-pot calipers and 312s I'd think you may need 17" rims for clearance.

we are trying to get a group but on the rear anti-roll bar for the octy. have a look in the awesome site sponser section.

if i put 312 on would i need to change anything else ie calipers? also i have 18inch wheels so that ok

Using VAG parts, I think you'd need discs, calipers, caliper brackets, hub carriers and maybe hubs to get 312s. Dunno about aftermarket stuff though.

Other than for look, 280s plus fast road pads should be adequate for 120bhp I think, in which case you'd only need discs, pads, and new caliper brackets.

can anyone confirm this and also point me in the right direction of where to get the bits. i think the 280 would be the way to go to keep cost down

As I said earlier, 280s, the same calipers you've got (ok with rear discs) and standard pads are adequate on the 110.

Caliper brackets could come from a scrappie (if you can find an Octy with the right engine [check Haynes if you have one]), discs are up to you, usual recommendation for pads is one of Ferodo DS2500, Mintex M1144 or Pagid fast road (Mintex and Pagid are the same friction material).

bump. any luck getting any part's sorted m8. bummer trying 2 get stuff over here for a tdi.

Surest way would to ask a dealer to order caliper mounting brackets for a TDi 110. Discs and pads from any decent speed shop, GSF or Euro Car Spares.

well i have done some work. i got a pipercross airfilter from GSF and im sure the pickup is slighly better as well as acceleration but no noise difference. i had to fit new pads as mine were done. i went to skoda and they wanted 45inc vat for pad so wentt to GSF and skoda pads where 25 inc vat so i asked for better ones and they had green stuff pads for 35 inc vat and they are alot better than the original ones so far no fading yet lol. Also i was gettin new front tyres and they r so much better for conering and they r just the new version of the tyres i had on before. so an exensive weekend but at least a bit happier :) (good news is ny insurance has finally dropped and is only
