Golf GT TDI 130

Featured Replies

Just seen this on autotrader yes it has 164,000 miles but has a FVWSH. This really is a bargin.

Same engine as the vRS & more kit clearly wont last as long & more may go wrong with it BUT its well over double the price to get a vRS!!

it's mis-titled IMO....

It looks like a non-PD Golf Mk3.

Got a link?

Does sound very cheap, even for a high miler.

Possibly - the engine cover has the 1.9TD (red I).

The reg plate appears to be "S" (but could be a private plate) - the alloys are certainly what youd get with GT TDI 115's and early GT TDI 130's

The interior seats are not what youd have with the 110TDI - from what Ive seen.

P.S> nice pic of the black vRS

search on Autotrader national search for VW any model then GT TDI 130.

Ah right, yeah, see it now. Well it's definitely a Mk4. Don't think it's a 130 though TBH. More likely to be a 110. Don't think the 130 was available in the Mk4 from release (1998). Thought it came only maybe late '99, early 2000?

The gear box is a 6 speed these only existed on the GTTDI 115 onwards.

I dont recall the 110TDI having a red I on the engine cover.

Also those alloys only started on the GTTDI115.

Mind you he may have swopped them however given the milage etc I cannot see him wasting his time on things which frankly add nothing to a car once on the inside.

Where does it say about the 6 speed box?

I've just had a look on a few websites and it looks like the early (98) GT TDI were 110 non PDs.

It wasn't until 2000 that they started putting the PD engines in (I think anyway)

Yep, think you're right Rob. Pretty sure the PD 115 and 130 came out in 2000. Remember driving a 130 in 2001 and being amazed! And they were pretty new on the block then. Nobody would believe I'd driven a diesel that was quite quick!

Also, all the other Mk4s on 'Trader from '98 are 110s.

If it's a 130 then you will find the power delivery is HORRIBLE, flat spots everywhere. From 40mph in say 4th around town our PD100 combi would walk away from our 130 easily, flooring it would often make it slow down!

We now have a 'soft' 165hp remap from Chipped UK on the 130 and it's really nice now, plenty of effortless grunt whenever you need it for A road overtaking.

Can't get on with that 6 speed box, I think I prefer the combi even if it does feel all loose by comparison.

huh? That doesn't sound right. A PD130 will always be quicker than a PD100.

Depends on how you're driving it and what the gearing is like. If you're doing 30mph in 4th in the PD130, it might take a while for the turbo to kick in and to get any speed up. If you're doing 30mph in the PD100 in third then the turbo may already be working and when you put your foot down you accelerate faster.

I can see what you're saying b1ackb1rd, but when I had my PD130 I didn't have the horrible flat spots etc. If I'm honest I miss the PD130 now I've got a PD100:(

Thats like saying My Octy VRS is slower than a PD100 if I'm doing 20 in fifth..... come on

Seriously, nothing happened until 2k, and then it was all over by 3k. I'll admit, it was pretty quick but useless at anything other than motorway speeds unless you drove around in 3rd gear - and that kills mpg.

The 130 with the remap is just as tractable as the PD100, it pulls hard from 1,200rpm and even pulled 6th at 800rpm when I mistook 4th for 6th.

I originally had a 180bhp remap but that was simply too much for my other half and useless for towing, the current remap is very torquey and tractable, just like a PD100 but much stronger.

Mine isn't. It's better than my non-PD 110 TDI Audi.

Yep, PD115 arrived 1999ish, and the first GTTDI cars were 110 non PD with VNT Turbo.

Sorry, but in my experience that is rubbish. I have driven many cars with the VW engines in varying guises and there is no way the PD100 is as quick as the PD130. It sounds like you drove a duff version. A PD130 should pull hard from around 1,500rpm upwards - hard enough to knacker the clutch if you try this too often! It'll also deliver strong acceleration up to around 4000rpm before it tails off.

The PD100 is a smooth engine, in fact it's arguably smoother to drive than the PD130. This is because it has a smaller turbo that spools up quicker. However the downside is that the PD100 will not accelerate as strongly as a PD130.

Like "b1ackb1rd", I'm in the position where I drive a PD130 Golf & SWMBO drives a PD100 Fabia although in his case I think it's the other way around ! :D

Both of our vehicles are now re-mapped but pre re-map I wouldn't say that the PD100 was in any way quicker than the PD130 but, it did actually pull from lower down the rev range.

Post remap though it's a totally different story, the Golf pulls like a train (much more so than the Fabia) from 1500rpm onwards, the Fabia although reasonably quick with it's remap is, perhaps unsurprisingly, nowhere near as torquey or quick now as the Golf is post remap ! :D

That's what I meant, but struggled to say...:o
