Boost

Featured Replies

Does anybody experience a boost loss? It seems sometimes somewhere after 4k rpms my car seems to loose boost for a fraction of a second and then gets it back and then looses it again, this happens up till the max revs. This is usually noticable on 3rd, 4th geards sometimes on 2nd.

Does anybody know what might cause this? I am chipped 248hp. My initial guess is that the DV is gone. But the thing is that this does not happen all the time only sometimes.

Thanks for help!

I get this too sometime, especially since fitting new pipercross panel filter. Happens occassionaly between 4k and 4.75k. Not a massive drop off but less surge than I get at say 3 - 4k and 5k onwards. Car also remapped. However when the car was standard I'd sometimes get it around 3 - 3.5krpm. Thought it was just a trait of the engine/management system how it sometimes reacts to maximum boost / acceleration. I'm not worried about it at this stage. Have not checked my DV yet to see if it may have split, but if it had then I would have not expected the power come back at 5krpm+.

Has been a common trait of a remapped FSi turbo, seems to effect some more than others. A few theories on DV's and some on fuel pressure are current.

Is your car an MY06? Does it have green brake calipers?

Mines an 06, first registered 03/06

As Lumox has already posted, this is a common occurance and one that has spewed up many theories over the past few months ranging from faulty DV's, a small loss of boost from the PCV going 'back' in to the engine, too much air being drawn through the intake through the MAF to the latest being a fuel pump issue. I'm sure a resolution will be found but at the moment you are just going to have to live with it or remove the map.

Or if you have a suitable map and control turn the boost down a little in the short term.

Not sure if this applies to this turbo but on the VNT one there is an adjuster that can be tweaked to slow down the boost build up very very slightly, meaning less overshoot but a very slightly slower boost build up.

No clue whether the TFSI turbo has a similar thing, if it's VNT, or whether it just totally doesnt apply anyway, but thought I'd mention it.

As I said its not a big issue at the moment, does not happen all the time so I'll live with it for mow and keep an eye on this forum ;)

I tried that and although it lessened the hesitation issue it did'nt irradicate it. The the other downside with reducing the boost is of course the loss of performance which means that I have made the conscious decision to return the settings back to what they were for time being and live with the consequences.

I run 959 and it runs so well most of the time but stutters randomly.

It seems to prefer the warmer weather.

I have noticed an improvement as it's got warmer over the past week or so

ok, i will anyway mention that at my next service. Ask them to check the DV etc. Don't really want to remove the map as the car is somuch more responsive with it although this loss of power take some fun out of driving.
