Identifying coil pack type

Featured Replies

Just found the following picture on SEATCupra.net which shows how to identify whether you have H or J coil packs fitted. The H is on the left and the J - which is sturdier at the top - is on the right.

This second picture shows Js fitted to Nos 1 and 2 cylinders:

Hopefully it will be possible to check all 4 without unscrewing or unplugging anything. Will report back tomorrow on this.

Able to check 3 of the 4 on my March 2002 1.8T without taking anything off other than the black plastic cover. Black rather than grey tops and, much to my surprise (and disappointment), they are the H version. For some reason I had thought that they would be the J. Woe is me, but hopefully I will get them replaced foc idc. :?

I did try and disconnect the plug in cable so that I could remove a coil pack and have a closer look, but I couldn't work out how the connectors are locked to the coil packs. Perhaps we will have instructions on this site one day.....................................................................

Strange that they file off the part number etc on the top!

Probably the manufactuer is afraid that the factory would

get attacked if we all knew who was responsible.
