PSP Movie Probs.

Featured Replies

Sorry if this is a long and boring thread but I'm getting somewhat frustrated with the little black device. The movies I am trying to put onto the PSP are my personal holiday videos therefore do not violate international copyright law.

When I first got the PSP I was able to play movies from the memory card. Now I can't remember how as I lost all my PSP backup files when my last PC threw a 7.

I have purchased a shiny new 4GB memory card from Hong Kong for

Not familiar with the PSP, Roy, but have you played the MP4 files on your PC (probably pretty obvious - but you never know) so you know they are 'valid' ?

Yeah, I can go into the files on the PSP MC via the PC and they play fine with Real Player, it's just that the PSP won't recognise the files on the MC. Maybe I should just get a personal DVD player, it would save a lot of bother.

Just been through a guide for the conversion using PSP Video 9 and your folder creation etc seems spot on.

The only possible thing might be the guide mentions the MP4 files are

MV4*****.mp4 i.e. the mp4 extension is lower case (personally I wouldn't have thought this would matter - but sometimes software is picky)

Have you used the ImToo software successfully before to create MP4 files for the PSP - or have you always used the PSP Video 9 in the past ?

What I'm getting at is that you might be as well just creating one file (as a test and to save time) with PSP Video 9 and letting it copy the MP4 and THM to the card and then seeing if you can access the file.

I have a PSP also, and use PSP video express, this allows you to compress videos down to whatever size you want, with no loss in quality this software puts it in the MP4 format, then all I do is follow on screen instructions to download to PSP. I reformat from .ISO movies mainly, but Video Express will reformat most.

A couple of things to ask:-

1) What version of the PSP software you on, 3.11 is the latest ?

2) Are you putting the films into the top directory( i.e the Video directory, and not a sub directory within Video - I have dine this by mistake with music,)

One other thing, is that I got a 4GB card very recently, and put music on it, when it started to play the music the card was corrupting the files, and would not allow them to be deleted either via PSP or PC, a reformat by PSP did not delet the files either. So Have ended up asking for a replacement.

May I suggest you put a lot of music on the card and start playing it, to see if the files are corrupted on Read .

If you find this is happening PM me and i will explain all the tests i went through to conform it was a duff card. - Too many to to put on here :)

Can you suggest any better software to convert video files to PSP format? I've tried PSP Video9 before and it kind of slowed my PC down a lot.

Whilst I have taken this manual approach some time back, I tend to use Xvid4PSP to convert to a format and size suitable for the PSP (http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Encoders-Converter-DIVX-Related/XviD4PSP-video-converter-for-PSP-and-PC.shtml), and PSP Video manager to send the final files to the PSP (Download PSP Video Manager 1.1.14.0307 - PSP Video Manager can help you move/copy PSP MPEG4 files to your Sony PSP with ease - Softpedia)

Hope this helps :thumbup::thumbup:

PSP Video 9. Cracking util to for converting to .mP4 vids. And if you have the PSP attached it will directly dump the movie over the USB cable and create all this faffy directory stucture.

You can control video and sample rates, as well as screen res to govern the size of the images going across.

PSP Video 9

I think its brill......

PSP Video 9.

Although pittVRS did indicate that this had already been tried, and gave issues, I did just download it myself, and TBH, it does look pretty cool. May give it a run later and compare the speed to my current method.

I use DVD Shrink to cut the DVD down to a decent size and remove menus etc, then 3GP converter to convert it to MP4 PSP friendly format

I'm using firmware version 1.5 for homebrew purposes. Since starting this thread I downloaded the beta versions of PSP 9 and got nowhere. then I got the old version 1.74 and it's solved all my problems! It even converts Xvid movies! Great, thanks very much. I think I was running an Intel P3 2.0Ghz last time I tried it so now it works a lot better.

Hurrah
