Stone Chips - Black Magic Paint

Featured Replies

Has anyone had stone chips in there paint work repaired namely the black magic paint which I believe is a pearlescent type of paint. Is it difficult to match the colour/type etc. Thinking of using one of these companies like Chips Away.

Reason I ask is while driving todayI heard the bang of doom as a stone smashed off the bonnet leaving a chip in the paint then it racked my windscreen too.

Hope someone can help.

Regards

Tim

I have some major chippage on my bonnet. Likewise it is hard to find a colour match ( i have the light blue- unsure of the exact name)

My plan is to first try the turtle wax t-cut, which came with a special filler.

I would assume that companies that deal with car chips and scraps will be able to colour match any car, as that is their sole profession, and if they didnt do a good job I'm sure they wouldnt be in business!

My plan is to first try the turtle wax t-cut, which came with a special filler.

Tried it on my last black car. The filler is simply a black wax stick and it's rubbish.

The black wax Tcut itself is ok and can fill some very slight scratches...but I mean VERY slight. Stone chips need paint carefully applied with a size 00 fine art brush. Nothing less will do.

Black Magic is metallic only.

Chips away can only do so much using a touch up etc, if it's really bad, then it would need to be professional repaired.

If I were you I wouldn't bother. The paint on modern cars is water based and thin. If you repair the chip it'll only be a matter of time before the next one appears. However it is easy to make ths chips harder to spot. All you need to do is...

- use ScratchX (or equiverlant) on the chip and surrounding area. After a bit of work 5-10 minutes the chip should be the same colour as surrounding paint.

- use a hard polish/wax over the top of your work to seal it.

I've used this approach and it works a treat. Ok so you can still spot the chip marks, but they are much less visible/annoying.
