Automatic window closure

Featured Replies

Hi

I've only had my Octy a few weeks, but have noticed that sometimes when turning the engine off and removing the key from the ignition, there was a clicking that came from all four doors - made me jump the first time it did it!

This week I'd left a window open when I removed the key from the ignition and realised that the clicking is something to do with the eclectic windows, as the window I'd left open automatically closed; quite a useful feature.

However, I can't find any way of regularly replicating this - sometimes I hear the clicking, other times not.

I had a look though the manual and the only reference to automatic window closing I could find relating to holding down the lock/unlock button on the key fob.

Does anyone else's car do this? Is this a standard window closing feature and if so how can I get it to reliably work?

Thanks

Ade

I had wondered what the clicking was. I look forward to an answer!

Mine clicks too.

I though it was the anti-hijack disabling (as enabled). Windows only close when alarm is activated/keyfob used to lock car.

I hope my answer is not what you have with your car. I had similar symptoms in my Mk1 Octavia - eventually it got worse and the central convenience unit and loom were replaced. A tell tale sign on the Mk1 is the drivers door LED staying on constantly.

Not sure if there are similar issues with the Mk2.

My clicks start with the drivers door, and work clockwise round the car with 5 distingtive clicks within a second or 2 - so I'm assuming it muct be the anti-hijack as none of the windows close at this point on mine.

How many clicks do you notice yeager?

It's four or five loud clicks, which as you say works its way round each door.

I didn't think it was the anti-hijack doors unlocking as that's a quieter noise that happens as soon as they key's removed from the ignition

I experience exactly the same clockwise clicking. Is there an official explanation?

The clicking is the doors unlocking. They lock when you go over 5 mph-ish, and unlock when you remove the key

Mine the locks engage together, yet unlock clockwise as mentioned before.

I'm assuming this is normal based on others semi-confirming my thoughts on the anti-hijack explaination

I played with this this morning. The doors unlock when the engine is turned off, and all at once. The clicking is when the key is removed. I pressed each window switch in turn, clockwise, and its the same sound. I am convinced it is the window relays energising.

It is the windows closing. Tryed this about 5 mins ago.. Stopped my car with the windows open, and they closed one by one a minute later. On my car it is not the unlocking that clicks - windows closing.

Yes, but we talking that windows will close after you remove key from ignition. It will check all windows at once not after one minute. Another thing, its not regular.. Sometimes it will check, another time not.

Question is, how it check and why. This is good feature but i want that it works every time.

I thought auto window closing when the car was stopped and key removed was due to rain only. However, if the sensor is thinking it is raining when it is not then there may be a problem with the sensor, or something else is triggering it.

My auto wipers have triggered for no apparent reason, so maybe a bug or dust can fool the system.

When I have used my washers or it has rained when I have been driving, when I stop and remove the key I can hear the windows checking they are shut, even if it is not raining at that time. There must be a memory feature on the rain sensor that says "in the last X minutes it was wet so I will shut the windows when the key is removed regardless of whether it is raining now".

Door locks

On my car, the doors lock automatically at 10 mph (anti-hijack) and remain locked until (a) the unlock button is pressed, (B) an interior door handle is pulled twice, or © the ignition is switched off and the key removed from the ignition. When the unlock occurs, all doors unlock together.

Windows

I'm intrigued by this. Mine doesn't do any of the clicking consistently (I've just been out and tried). I'm sure that sometimes I hear the windows shuffle a little but I can't remember the circumstances so will watch out for this and post again.

Update: Sometimes, when I stop the engine and withdraw the key from the ignition, all open windows will close at the same time. Sometimes, they don't. Whilst it appears useful, does anyone know whether it's supposed to happen?
