Gearbox Whine vRS??

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Now I've had the car for a little while and am getting a bit more used to it I've noticed a high pitched whine in 4th gear at approx 30mph. I know that this puts the revs vey low but the engine doesn't seem strained by it. Is this normal or do I need to be taking it to th dealer??

Cheers

Doesnt happen on mine so might be worth getting checked out

the same with me have you checked the wheel bearings or the gear box oil level?

I have not noticed it on mine. I'll have a listen when I go out later just to be sure!

Cheers guys. It only happens if you feather the throttle in 4th at around 30. You have to make effort to listn to it. Every other gear is fine and 4th is ok when accelerating.

If it was a wheel bearing wouldn't it do it in all gears?? Would have thought the same for gearbox oil? I wondered if it might be the 4th ratio itself???

Cheers
