Flasher unit?

Featured Replies

Although the indicators (and the hazards) seem to be working fine, the flasher unit carries on clicking like a mad thing after the indicators have been used. The car's done 106K miles so it may need replacing. Anyone able to explain where exactly its located? Sounds like behind the radio.

The flasher relay is part of the hazzard switch and although these are pretty common the above fault is usually due to a faulty indicator stalk.

Thanks Lummox. Is the stalk repairable? Or is it a replacement job?

the dill

Replacement stalk is best.

Thanks.

Oddly, the cruise hasn't worked for some time. Its on the same stalk, of course. Coincidence?

Might be related, might not.

Cruise control can be checked with VAG COM etc.

I should have done a search first shouldn't I?

There's tons of stuff about dodgy indicators and most of the cures seem to centre around replacement of the flasher unit. But that seems to be for indicators that don't work or work erratically which is presumably why you suggested it was the stalk?

some gremlin in the works told me that my reply had failed, which is why I did it again. It hadn't had it?

I work on the cars everyday and I kinda get to know what symptoms mean what.

Generally slow or erratic indicators are caused by the hazzard switch.

The indicators that keep flashing in a certian direction is usually the switch. It doesnt quite set into neutral and bounces into the on position. If you have a feel its probably a little loose. And if you lightly tap the stalk you can probably get it to do it.
