Goodyear F1 Warning - Possible Dangerous Tyres.

Featured Replies

Not quite sure where to put this thread, but here seems as good a place as any.

Goodyear warning! - Volvo Performance Club UK Forums

I suspect this will be going round the internet like wildfire.

I have F1's on my Mazda 6 and they feel good and don't squeak.

Will check tomorrow to see if they are the propper ones or not.

:) Well spotted but the tyre is still made by Goodyear and because of its markings should NOT be available for the British market.....

Great tyre the one made in Germany, still awaiting reports on the "assimetric" one though

I aint taking it anywhere. Just found the post on another website ;)

tbh I reckon if you have the wrong compound tyre then in this country it could be a big deal, although probably only in the colder months.

The China thing doesn't bother me at all, as I have Chinese tyres on my car. (With the correct E number thing though)

This is more common than most people appreciate. A certain well known manufacturer and an equally well know giant of the tyre industry were having some friction last year on quality issues. Essentially, one of their performance models had very variable handling. Some cars were good, some pretty poor. That the situation was bad enough for dealers to be asking for help resolving customer problems indicates how poor the poor cars were.

Investigation showed the root cause of the problem was that the OE wheels where fitted with tyres of the same brand and model tyre, but from different factories across the globe.

Update on this - I've had an email from Goodyear Product Support & Service.

All tyres with an E number are the correct type for UK roads, those without the E number are illegal for use on UK roads.

On the tyre sidewall, you should find an E in a box/circle, normally followed by a couple of numbers (eg. E13 or E5). The number after the box/circle is the type approval certificate issued for that particular tyre size/type.

For more on the E number format: Dunlop Tyres UK

The E number is at location F.
