GB bonnet lifter fitted

Featured Replies

The bonnet lifter arrived, well packaged in the post about 30 minutes ago.

It is now fitted. Took about 15 minutes.

Fit & finish is good, but the bit of rubber pipe on the bracket meant that you have to use quite a bit of force to get the holes to line up with the ones in the wing. Not a problem, and I'd rather have a neat fit, than a sloppy, rattly thing....this will aid the support and limit the bending moment on the bracket.

The ball "joint" which goes into the bracket on the bonnet could probably do with a little spacer to limit the amount of movement available. Again, not a problem and it does say in the instructions that this is to give some adjustment.

I also had to remove the small orange plastic clip in the bonnet that normally holds the OEM strut in it's stowed position. This hit the new strut and caused the bonnet to be held up somewhat. Once removed, the bonnet fit is fine.

Overall and great little addition to the car and a nicely put together package.

Thanks to Jason (Devonutopia) for his perseverance on this item and for putting together the whole GB.

Cheers.

PS: Thinking of selling the car, so if anyone wants one ;)

T'is a great piece of kit. I'm super pleased with mine!

I have since added the bit about removing the orange clip to my instructions. :) It was something I never encountered as I removed my entire bonnet lining and all the clips during the trials to get a bracket to fit the car. :)

Good that there's a bit of R&R going on all round, and thanks for the positive comments. Well chuffed with mine even if it is using a ch.av lifter strut and a custom bonnet bracket due to my bonnet not containing any metal. :D
