Secondary Air Flow Conundrum!

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

Wondered if anyone else has come across this problem before; a few weeks back my engine management light came on, took the car to the dealer and they said I needed a replacement top airflow hose... 7 days later, the light came on again - back to the dealer for a engine breather pipe replacement... 3 days later, light comes on again(!!!!!) - back to the dealer again for a temperature switch replacement... another 3 days later the damn light is on again!!!!!!!! Really annoyed now that this hasn't been fixed - car is again with the dealer and they've had it for a couple of days now - need it fixing but they seem to be thick!!

I bought a VAG-COM interface / software off eBay and plugged it into the car - each time the EML comes on, the fault given is:

16795 Secondary Air System - Incorrect Flow Detected P0411 035

...can anyone shed any light on this 'cos I'm sure my local dealer can't and I'm sick of having to keep paying money for more and more parts of my engine to be changed when maybe they don't need to be as the same fault constantly causes the EML to come on week in week out! Heeeeeeeeeeeeelllllllllllllllpppppppppppp! :(

Sounds like a knackered air pump to me, either that or one of the pipes has come off it. That is assuming the pump is running. If it isnt it could be as simple as a blown fuse.

is that a warraty job?? because i have a spare one of those kicking about

Hi Guys - thanks for the advice; I've relayed this to the guys at the Skoda dealership and they seemed to think that the air pump was working fine; I picked the car up from the dealer on Saturday after 'another' 2 hoses were found to be 'split' causing the error to bring on the EML - this is HIGHLY suspicious now, every time I return the car they seem to diagnose yet ANOTHER component of my engine that needs replacement!! Really think they have no idea now and are just bleeding me dry of money... because was driving the car to work again this morning, only 4 days after getting the damn car back off the dealer and the ruddy thing has happened again!!!! Honestly never known such incompetance!!! If they can't sort a relatively small problem like this, it doesn't instill much confidence to return the car for servicing or any other work to be done in the future!! Well, if anyone else can provide any further suggestions I'd be most grateful as I'm banging my head against a brick wall now! :(

Apologies, meant to say that my car is a 02 vRS so no warranty I'm afraid :(

What did vag-com bring up this time?

Have a look here:

I would eliminate

Check Fuel Pump Relay (J17)

As obviously the car runs and is therefore getting fuel,

and

Check Hoses/Pipes to/between Components

As this seems to have already been covered by your garage

and

Check Secondary Air Injection Pump (V101)

Check Secondary Air Injection Pump Relay (J299)

As the pump must be working.

Which leaves

Check Secondary Air Injection Solenoid Valve (N112)

Which in my view could be the problem as a fault with this will not let the secondary air reach its destination.

i've got one of them too!;)

erm.. no, not now i havn't..... if you'd have asked me a couple of days ago it would be a different story tho:O

Well, I can't help with parts etc, but I agree that there's something not right with the diagnostic technique!

Hi,

Did you ever get to the bottom of this one as seem to have the same problem.

Cheers
