Fabia 1.4 8v Classic Wheels

Featured Replies

Quick question,

got the above car would 16" VRS Wheels fit alright?

Cheers

Mike

Yes they will fit but:

  • You will have very poor fuel economy (1.4 8v is a hair dryer compared to the 1.9TD lump)
  • Struggle up hills (big heavy wheels and a tiny engine)
  • Have to recalibrate your speedo, not sure if this is even possible.. (larger circumference on the wheel means the speedo measurements will be wrong)

Hmm not good then so what alloys would be best?

Want stock alloys not any of this boy racer crap :D

Cheers

Sorry, but you won't have to recalibrate your speedo.

What profile tyres are on your car at the moment? You need to match the rolling radius of the new tyres so they are the same overall size as the current ones you are using. I think the std vRS profile of 205/45 should be just fine, but I don't know what tyres you have as standard.

Any aftermarket alloys except ones like OZs will be heavier than your standard steelies, and hence will numb performance somewhat. :)

Team Dynamics pro race wheels are supposed to be quite light.

Forged alloys are the best for keeping unsprung weight down but they cost a bomb. Fitting bigger alloys is a sure fire way to reduce performance. Going from 14's to 16's will make your car feel like a moped.

the team dynamics pro-race 1.2 and 2's are forged wheels as are oz ultralegaras( nice wheels).

if you stick with the 205-45 r16 the speedo shouldnt be a problem, but just dont expect to go anywhere quickly

are alloy wheels heavier than steelies?

would a few kg make that much difference?

Thats what I thought although I guess size will make the biggest difference and i would be only gaining a extra couple of inches ..what about all these people with 19`s on fiestas and such like :D

Havent had a chance to have a look yet although they are just standard classic stealies ill have a look tonight :)

Got 16" vRS alloys on mine (16v Fab) replacing the standard 14" wheels - couldn't really notice any difference in performance, and the speedo seems about right - GPS speed is slightly lower than indicated, but that's to be expected? :D

Not sure how old your car is, but I'm wondering why (given the cost of wheels) you would spend that rather than putting the money in your savings pot?

As Dmac1969 said in another thread, it's a downer not having "nice" wheels, but as you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear (i.e. it'll always be the car it is), I wonder as to the raison d'etre?

Hope that makes sense.

Regards

Mo

Edit: I can't think it would increase resale value up to even the purchase cost of the tyres, but I know nothing.

the cars a 02/03 plate and we have had it for about a week and a half :)

We like the car but hate the wheels/wheeltrims!

Hell even even our old 1 litre 8v lupo had alloys!

lam not trying to make it into a max power special just adding some extras on that should of been done when it was new :)

As for peformance i seen a 1.2 Fabia Estate and that had standard alloys on pretty nice ones too so guess it wont effect peformance THAT much surely?

Nice are the arch gaps too terrible with 16`s or acceptable?

I changed my furbie wheels to VRs alloys. (1.4mpi comfort)

Just to check things out when I changed them I weighed one of the steels and I think it was something like 6.5kg with a well worn tyre on it.

and the alloy weighed in at 8kgs with a new tyre so about 1.5kgs difference.

and say 500gms for tyre ware so all in 4kgs heavier.

so it like carring some shopping in the car. not going to effect performance too much.

yes I know extra drag with wider tyres.

but I think I have over come any short falls by fitting a K&N filter, Bosh super4 plugs, and slick 50 in the engine.

seems to pull better and smoother. (no VRS but there you go)

Finally got around to checking the original tyres on it 165 70 R 14 8 1T if that makes any sence :)

Am i alright to use the original wheel nuts?

Cheers :)
