VRS brakes, where to buy?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I think I need to replace all my discs and pads and plan to fit myself but need a cheap source for parts, anyone got any tips?

cheers

hi there guys,

i've taken a look at the link above and it really seams to be great value for money.

i am wondering weather this is gonna fit my octy 1.8t elegance with 16" wheels?

my calipers should be the same as the ones found in vrs or tt.

cheers

Try eurocar parts, they do ATE discs which are apparently good.

they exactly the same fitment then?

there must be a catch at that price....

my car originaly has 288mm discs i think. i has 16"wheels as well.

that's why i am wondering weather it's gonna fit or not?

is ATE better than mintex?

i am generally looking to improove my brakes without spending a fortune for brembo set.

gsf sells some drilled 312mm discs for tt. they claim that those discs should fit any octy 1.8t including ones with 16"wheels. i am not sure about brand.

gsf also claims that fittment should be exactly the same on all 1.8t octys

Hang on, do you have vRS brakes or not?

The vRS estate had 16" rims as standard.

saintjames has vrs brakes , i think.

i don't have vrs brakes originally as my car is octy 1.8t 20v elegance, 2001/y, aum engine code.

i am looking to improove my braking because of the remapp. i think my brakes are 288mm at the moment. that's why i am worried that much.

cheers

mines are vrs so I gues the brakes are 312mm... I've asked that ebay shop about fitment and wether they do the rears as well and how much for the lot, will feed back.

what parts need replacing in order to fit 312mm discs in my car?

only caliper carriers or something else as well?

Just the carriers aye. And of course the bigger pads/disks.

I bought some of the ebay ones this week, should be with me tomorrow.

i'll buy the mentioned mintex set from ebay . that guy doesn't stock caliper carriers so i'll have to find them elsewhere.

do you know the aprox. price for caliper carriers from skoda dealers or any other cheap source?

The pads do not come with the Brake pad sensor, but there is a fix if you dont wat the light on your dash showing up.

Just cut the sensor off your old pads and join the wires, and tuck it away somewhere. Im doing mine this weekend hopefully, ill post up the fix.

That sensor isn't a big deal but the caliper carriers are:(.

I hope to find them somewhere cheap...

Good luck with the mod

Missed them today, there at the parel depot. Ill have to collect them tomorrow.

Collected them from the depot today.

Was poorly pacakaged, but only damage to the boxes. Parts are all good.

Hopefully get them on the weekend. I'll review in time.

You could get the carriers from any scrappers that stock VAG group cars running 312mm disks (ie Octy VRs, Golf GTi Anni, TT, etc etc)

  • 2 weeks later...

Well the Ebay Mintex Brake discs and pads went on today.

Lets see how they go, will report back in x,000 miles.
