Water loss

Featured Replies

I keep having to top up my coolant. When hot the expansion bottle is empty, open it and hey presto.....gurgle gurgle...bottle now full ! Excuse my ignorance but is this normal.

Also while I'm here, occasionally at high speed, if I cruise for a while ...lift my foot to coast to a roundabout/turn off etc, the epc light comes on and the engine stalls (whilst still in gear) The dealer can find no fault code other than a throttle housing fault which does not have a listed remedy. Tech mentioned there is a yaw (if thats how it's spealt) sensor that could be effecting things abd also if cruising for a certain period the ecu kicks in soome kinda cruise mode, that combined with the yaw? might be causing the fault.

Originally when it happened the eps switch stayed lit ALL THE TIME !, that shouldn't happen and pressing it made no difference. The car would start and immediately cut out. Please help, oh and tell me why there are hardly any aftermarket, cheapo type suspension kits for the 2.0 fsi..... thank you

Having recently had a coolant leak myself (puddle on floor & dripping from front undertray) this does not seem normal to me The level should be between the two marks on the bottom half of the bottle when the engine is COLD.

When hot my coolant level is higher (than when cold) as as the engine cools the liquid is (apparently) pulled back into the radiator lowering the level.

The gurgle and instant fill maybe an airlock (some better qualified will be able to tell you for sure).

I had a new radiator and was told i may get an airlock which when released would lower the coolant level (i.e. empty the expansion bottle coolant light on dashboard on).

The in car heating circuit is also feed using the engine coolant and can also have an air lock and it was suggested to put it on full heat when the engine was warm to release any trapped air.

I'll give the heat thing a go. I keep having to top it up and it's getting a tad annoying.

Cheers

If there is no visible leak it could be a head gasket on the way out.

I considered that but I don't get any smoke and I would expect the temp gauge through the roof, had it happen years ago whilst boy racing my 5 gt turbo, in a sensible fashiom, built in smoke machine....and a 500 bill to repair the warped head etc.....

you may not get any smoke.... my car (2.0 TDi) had been losing coolant for weeks now and I've never had visible smoke from it and after rebuilding it following the turbo failure it still is :( Winchester Skoda have now spoken to Skoda UK who have told them to crack/pressure test the cylinder head and if that is OK then to do the same with the block  why they can't just slap a whole new engine in there beats me, after all they've had to replace the turbo, intercooler and full exhaust system AND rebuilt the head with new gasket/dowels etc it would have been easier to fit a new engine at the time than deprive me of the car for a further 2-3 weeks while they (Skoda UK) faff about testing stuff - I can't praise the Winchester dealer enough though, through all this they've tried their best to sort my car out whilst I'm busily racking up hundreds of miles on their long term courtesy car
