Are you sure it is not just the placebo effect?

I have just fitted the same filter to my vRS TDI and find it hard to know if there is any difference apart from the feel good factor. Short of putting a car on a rolling road, before & after, any difference is hard to prove.

I have done one test. With the OE filter I checked several times the 'instant mpg' on full throttle acceleration in 4th gear; between about 2,750rpm to 3,750rpm the reading stabalised at 10.4mpg. With the K&N I get the same 10.4mpg reading.

In theory; if the K&N was giving more air the ECU would provide more fuel and TBH I was expecting a reading of 10.3mpg or perhaps 10.2mpg.

Is my theory wrong? or does the K&N not make any particular difference? apart from the 'feel good' factor.

Trouble is the effect is not "instant" as the CPU takes a while to adapt to new things while it learns what to do whith it (up to 4 weeks) so fitting it and expecting lift off just won't happen ...the only way to test this is to RR the car, fit the filter, drive around for a month and then RR the car again, it may get you 2 to 5 bhp ........it's no use clearing the cpu either as it will then have relearn everthing ...again taking about a month

Thanks; that's comforting.

Mind you I do 350-400 miles per week so might feel an effect in less than a month?

Same as Millers Diesel Sport4 - that takes 250-500 miles to 'take effect' - presumable for the same reason of the ECU learning its new diet.

I thought everything was meant to be 'instant' these days?

This is all from my own observations but it seems about right from the few things I have done on previous skodas I had .........digital dragon tuning box upped the performance a bit straight away but was much better a few hundred miles later....green filter again noticed the effect later and even a remap whilst it does reset the ecu it still has to learn and is better as time goes on

To be on the safe side, you may want to dab the filter with some kitchen roll to take off any excess oil (if there is any) to reduce the chance of this ending up on the MAF.

Thanks; but done it already. ;)
