TomTom speed limits indication

Featured Replies

Recently I downloaded the latest update for the Western Europe map for my TomTom Go 700. Apart from map updates I've noticed that it now seems to recognise speed limits on Motorways and some other roads. If I exceed the 70mph limit (sorry officer!) by about 3mph the speed display changes to red and it's shown in relation to the actual limit in a format that looks like 74/70. I don't remember seeing this before or perhaps I never exceeded the speed limit in the past! I can't find any reference to this on the TomTom web site.

There is a speed option in pref menu somewhere which can be set. I'd change that.

Our 910 does this, and always has even before the latest maps. However only use this as a guide. For example one road near me used to be a 60 limit, now 40 but tomtom still thinks its a 60 so you could be caught out is a camera van is out.

I know that you can turn the actual speed indication off under the status bar preferences but I'd never come across the display showing the comparison between my actual speed and the 'legal' speed of a particular road.

I have a Tom Tom One V2 European mapping and this does exactly the same, I have not found where to eliminate this function, but I am sure that after a while travelling above 70 limit, it stops flashing red and just shows your actual speed.

I know when I first saw this, it was a little distracting but then I noticed it stopped doing it as I had been travelling a few miles above the legal speed limit (naughty, naughty).
