AUDIO installation in Fabia

Featured Replies

Hello guys. I am new at this forum. I found it VERY interesting. I owe a Fabia 16v 1400 , Comfort. Does anybody know how many speakers are installed and in which locations? Is there pre-installed cabling for rear speakers or I have to install them myself?

Thank you!

I think there should be rear speaker wiring, though I can remember a Greek(?) member on here saying that their Octavia Ambiente didn't come with rear speaker or the wiring for them.

Easy enough to run the cables yourself though... :)

The existing wires to the rear speakers winds it way up both sides of the car (as I've recently found out) - most of them go down the drivers side though and come across to the left hand side by the rear seats.

Note though these wires cannot really power a sub adequately so it is advised to run a power cable from the boot, down the left hand side trim, and through behind the glovebox to the battery. (may need a metal cutting drill bit ;)) IIRC many people have powered 6x9s adequately using existing speaker wires going to the rear speakers at the sides, so this could be a less laborious option? (but not as fun as drilling through the bulkhead. :D)

I agree with Jason. Theirs nothing like drilling a 13mm hole through a bulk head of a brand new car. :D

Just remember to use a gromet!

Or do what I did and fluked the right drill bit size to get a hole almost exactly the same size as the thickness of the power cable. :D No way I could get a grommet in there now as its tightly full. :D

Oh, and handy tip - I lost my dead thin grounding wire for the amp, so chopped 2 foot off the power cable (as I was mounting amp on l/h side of boot, not r/h side) and used that - just fitted into amp's grounding slot, and then I undid the l/h rear seat bolt mount just a bit to squeeze in the other end, then re-tightened. Nothing like an 80 amp grounding wire.

Thanks very much for the info. Unfortunately it seems that Greek models (like mine) do not include wiring for the rear speakers. I would like to install the wire myself but I am unfamiliar with this stuff and I don't have the appropriate equipment.

So you have no rear speakers at all? hmmm.

Sounds like your best option then would be to power an amplifier in the boot to power a sub and a set of 6x9s. If you'd had rear speakers then a sub would probably have been sufficient.

(this option means the infamous hole drilling, and RCA cables needed to go to back of the head unit)

No specialist equipment needed really...

Just a question of getting some speaker wire, connecting one end into the plug to the back of the stereo, then pulling up some trim down the car and tucking the wire under, and connecting up the wire to the speakers.

That said, if you're not confident in doing it yourself, it shouldn't be all that expensive to get an audio fitter to do it...

Maybe I will try it myself. I don't think it will be impossible to install it. The problem is that I don't know how can I manage to hide the wire inside the car. What is the route from the rear part of my Sony mp3 player till the rear side of my fabia.

Personally, I'd go for under the outer edges. If you open the doors, there's plastic trim which sits over the carpet and the metal of the door sill. If you gently but firmly lift this off, you will then be able to tuck the wire under the carpet and then push the trim back on.

It's not difficult, but does require patience! :)

Others might suggest running the cable along under the carpet by the handbrake and gearstick, but it's not something I've done...

Has anybody installed tweeters inside the back doors of Fabia? Is it worth installing them? Will the overall sound quality inside the car be better?

It would probably be easier to buy the dual cone (is that right?) speakers than fitting tweeters, but I may be wrong.

welcome by the way :)

Also known as "co-axial" speakers...yeah, I'd say you're right Jeff, it will be easier and will give comparable quality...

Thats the word I was looking for! Cheers Rob.
