This is a good one...(electric windows)

Featured Replies

I think my car's possessed! A couple of times in the last month, the electric window controls on the driver's armrest have spontaneously swapped over!!! Normally the one on the right controls the driver window and the one on the left controls the passenger window. A couple of times recently I've gone to open my [driver's side] window and the passenger one's opened so I've had to use the one om the left to open/close mine. On both occasions this has continued throughout the journey but has been back to normal when I've parked the car up and come back a while later. I tried switching off then on again and the windows are still swapped, but leaving it for an hour or two seems to restore normality.

I'm not bothered because, at the end of the day, I can still control my windows. I'm just perplexed as to how it spontaneously and randomly happens...

Ah! Ignore this; I've just seen a thread on exactly the same thing!!!

If you read through this forum you'll quickly discover your car isn't the only one to do this!

I'm waiting for mine to do this.....;)

It's to do with the CAN system. Whenever you operate a switch a signal is sent to all the reipients within the system (window motors, door locks and mirror motors), only the recipient that recognises the signal is meant to respond. For some reason recognition codes have swapped.

Aye. I'm feeling a little sheepish because I posted before catching up on the day's postings. I edited with an apology a few mins later but couldn't delete the post. In my defence, I visit the site most days and have not come across this before...

Yep

Mine has done this once

Convenience System ECU

They are rather expensive :(

It's more than just taking the fuse out to reset it, then? That's all I needed to do when it happened on mine...

Nah , mine is the control unit , ah well :(

But it keeps you on your toes when the wrong window goes down , makes you think Ooooh am I awake

LOL yesterday I had the same but now I know I didn't image it. I did my drivers window down and my passenger window opened. Didn't happen anymore but as it seems it could happen again. My car is new, 3 months old. Should I tell this to my dealer or wait until it happens again and stays working faultly?

Trouble is, it's a bit of a transient fault, and easy to fix if it doesn't go away of its own accord. Take it to the dealer by all means, but chances are all he'll do is this:

...and while you shouldn't be charged for warranty work, it's still a bit of a wasted trip IMO!
