Misleading Petrol Gauge

Featured Replies

First noticed when gauge was on half full, then 'bing' only 40 miles left!

I've watched it closely since then and once, going uphill(!), it increased?

I filled up today and fiddled (As you do) with the nipple at the top of the filler pipe and loads of air came out - good?bad?dangerous?

From Briskoda research you can lift the rear cushion and get access to the fuel pipework.

I will check and clean the pipework but is there a specific fault - i.e. some sender part?

Thanks

Matt:confused:

I've got a 2000 Octavia 1.6 and it does the same thing - except between half and 3/4 empty it will go down to almost zero and then later settles closer to the actual value (I reset the trip every fill so I know when I need fuel). Its almost as if its taking a reading every half hour of driving and just happens to take the first reading when I'm going around the same sharp bend every day, so gets an artificially low reading!
