engine ticking

Featured Replies

hello everybody,i was just wondering ,i have a new octavia vrs it has just past the 3000 mile mark but for the past couple of months it has had a ticking noise coming from the the engine when it is sitting idling,it is coming from around the front left as you are looking at it,i have been told by the dealer that it is normal and that it is the charcoal filter but it is not coming from what he said it is.it is also a little bit spluttery when idling (just a tiny bit) but my friends new gti with basically the same engine is very quite and smooth.does anybody have have similar problems or is the ticking normal as the dealer says.just one more thing does anybody know how to get the engine cover off,i cant find any screws or clips i just want to see if the spark plugs are dirty and causing the little splutter.

Do you wait for the engine to warm or start and drive off?

I find doing the latter leads to an engine which will be noisey in it's life cycle as you described. My Mk1 ticked, but normally when approaching some service TLC.

Does sound like the solenoid on the charcoal canister to me.

thanks for the reply guys, the ticking is there all the time even after a long drive, spent some time trying to locate it and it seems to be coming from a hose at the front off the engine ,the hose has some kind off a cylinder attached with a wire coming out of it.by the way i know i am complaining about the car allot but dont get me wrong it is a fantastic car it just these small things get on my nerves when you have just spent lots off money buying the car.does anybody have a solution to the engine cover removal
