When I turned the engine on today, the little engine outline stayed on as I went to reverse. I turned off and came in to look through the hand book. It says something about if the light stays on after the engine starts its something to do with the power system?

Does anyone know what this means and whether its serious please. I have a hospital appointment first thing in morning and Im now worrying whether to drive there.

I'd have thought you'll be ok to drive the car a short distance. If it's a serious problem then engine power will automatically be reduced. Probably best to get it to a dealer/garage as soon as you can though.

Waiting for someone to correct me on this, but it would probably be OK to drive 15 miles each way tomorrow and other local journeys but probably best looked at by a dealer before too long, as it may affect the performance and economy of the car whilst you're driving. I've had the light on before and not worried too much about driving it around. It may drive a bit slow if it goes into a self preservation mode.

As to what it could be, it could be anything from a sensor that needs replacing to nothing at all! I think the only way to tell is to get it hooked up to a diagnostics computer or VAG COM.

Its an engine management light.

As for whats caused it its anyones guess.

I have been tols it can mean alkost naything like a bit of damp in exhaust. happened few times to mine but then goes out again next time started. be warned dealer could charge for almost anything for this.

Could be anytning! The light comes on when the cars computer has logged errors. A dealer can read out the errors for you.

The yellow warning light started to show two month's ago. the garage claimed the ECU is giving too low voltage to the Lambda. The warning light is not present at all times, but gives me a hell! Anyone got an idea??
