Fabia TDI gearbox noise

Featured Replies

HI, i wonder if anyone has experienced any premature gearbox noise/ wear on a fabia TDI PD 100.I have recently bought an 03 plate TDI from my local main dealer in norwich and after 2 weeks & 600 miles returned the car to them complaining of gearbox noise and diff noise at low speed they drove the car and agreed with me that there was some noise present and they would get an engineer from skoda warranty to drive the car. He arrived 2 weeks later drove the car and announced that there was some noise but it was par for the course for a 55,000 mile car. I cannont accept this as i also have an 01 plate 110,000 mile sdi with no gearbox noise at all. The TDI has full main dealer history from new the sdi main dealer history up untill i bought it with 78k on at 18 months old serviced by myself from then on.I am not a novice as i am a commercial mechanic with over 30 years in the trade, I invite any comments on this.

UPDATE

I received a call from the sales manager this morning ( june 6) asking me if i it we possible for them to have the car next week as they would like to rebuild my gearbox. as i understand they are standing the cost themselves and are loaning me a car for the duration of the work. They accept that there should be no noticable noise fron the box at this mileage and are amending the situation accordingly.I will update more after i get the car back so hats off to Damien at robinsons a man of his word.

Well your problem isn't really with the dealer. They have agreed there is noise from your gearbox. But Skoda have said they wouldn't do anything about it under warranty so its out of the dealers hands. a call to customer services to at least log your complaint may help.

One thing to bear in mind is that the TDi has somewhere approaching twice the power of the SDi. I'm not saying that a noisy 'box is acceptable at 55k, but the more powerful engine has the potential to wear the 'box faster if it's not been driven sympathetically...

I have a spare 5 speed if you get stuck. I want next to nothing for it too. Came out of my car when 60k old, good condition. Changed due to me changing pretty much everything in my engine bay. :)

Has anybody thought of changing the oil?

I think that mines quite noisy but I've heard that comment from others here before and not had any problems myself.

Nothing's been said at service. I get it done by a non-Skoda large place close by me so would expect they would raise it if they though that it was an issue and not have a vested interest in keeping stumm.
