MOT Pass! (but quick emissions question?)

Featured Replies

Hi

The Fabia passed its MOT today (just as well , considering I spent

the long run and Redex clean out will have made the difference , some of the figures have barely changed so i wouldn't worry about , which i'm sure your not as its another 12 months before it requires another MOT

possibly different equipment used for the test may have differing results.

Good point, but you'd hope that all the MOT station's equipment was calibrated/checked reasonably regularly..... :D

Thanks for the replies! It was the same garage that done both MOTs (in fact its never seen another dealer since it was new , everything has been done at Tweedmouth Service Station)

It strongly depends on how the car is driven etc before the test is done. Ideally, you'd take the car and thrash the cr4p out of it before it goes for any emissions testing, to fully warm up the cat and ensure the lambda sensor is clean and hot.

A proper italian tune up is the way prior to any MOT. :D

Couldn't agree more with Chrispy in this instance!

'Italian tune up'...nice!

I usually follow this advice, but due to useless dealers and independents, I ended up getting the MOT done a mile from my house so couldn't. Still sailed straight through though :D:rofl:

A mile away? More than plenty......

Nah, this is the advice we all used to follow on the beemers as they were buggers for faling MOT's one day and passing the next purely down to the cat not being hot enough and the lambdas being a little worn. Taking em and wringing their necks for a few miles on the way to the testing centre gave a much higher certainty of a pass.

Lambda and cat failures on them things was common though. People were running up to 80k on the 1st lambda and it overfuelled thus killing the cat. They didn't find out till MOT day and they got and expensive bill.

A normal lambda sensor would last around 60k I'd say before its readings start to drift with age. They're cheap and easy enough to replace and the biggest factor in controlling emissions on a petrol car. If in doubt, change it.
