How close is a Jabba'd 1.9 TDI (non PD) to a vRS Furby?

Featured Replies

Basically can I make a cheap-o version of the vRS?

How far would this be from a vRS:

Fabia 1.9 TDI (non PD) Jabba'd to 140BHP/ 250 ft/lb torque.

vRS Suspension.

vRS Alloys/ Tyres.

Would it perform close? Are the gear ratios way off?

Comments please :)

The 1.9 TDI is a PD lump. I was able to match the pace of an Ibiza FR (130bhp) with just a cheapo resistor mod so with a remap it's probably going to be a similar story, with you maybe being a little ahead of the vRS. It'll also depend if you have the estate or the hatch (as the estate weighs more).

I would probably get Eibach suspension rather than vRS one as the vRS has a higher nose weight (due to the extra gear) and the Eibach will be specifically tailored to your car ... again, especially if it's an estate.

Wheels .... well they're cosmetic really - get them if you want, but you won't see any major gains (more unsprung weight for the engine to move though). Maybe get some lightweight alloys if you want to go bigger?

Yep - a remapped pd100 TDI Fabia will keep up with and possibly be a bit faster than a vRS due to weight difference. :)

I definitely enjoyed my pd100 for a long time remapped.

The 5 speed gear ratios may actually help it too. :)

Stage 2 tune would be PD130/150 injectors, Garrett GT1749va(B) (PD130/150/160). That'll give you 170-190bhp. :D

So it this 2002 model a PD

Yes, all the diesel engines in the Fabia are PD units. The Octy (I) used some DI (90, 110bhp) and one PD (130bhp).

I've driven 'against' rob when he had his 'digital' tuning box on his PD 100, and he could as good as match my vRS, I I would suggest the remap will give you similar power, if I remember rightly it'll be about 140bhp....

A remapped will be quicker to a certain speed. The turbo in the PD130, is slightly larger, therefore will have a stronger pull, further up the rev-range.

The estate actually weighs less than a VRS, but a remapped PD100 is marginally quicker than a standard VRS. :)
