What would you do? Am I being picky?

Featured Replies

Following my fastest car in the world thread, I have this to add and would appreciate you opinions.

I had a rattly back brake which turned out to be a snapped retaining spring. Chapmans of Pickering repaired it free of charge and even put new pads in for nothing. Brilliant service.

The only thing that let it down was that someone had taken the car out for a spin to check the brakes. Fine, other than the fact they must have been down a farm track or something as the tyres were filthy, someone with dirty boots in the passenger seat left an oily footprint on my otherwise pristine white carpet and the trip computer was reading 6 miles with an average consumption of 21mpg. This leads me to believe that a couple of lads had a bit of a rag round and no doubt didn't warm up the turbo before thrashing the car or let it cool down before turning it off, as the temp needle was at full operating temp when I set off.

Also, I'm quite careful on how I look after the Black Magic paint. The car was clean when I dropped it off, as I didn't want them to clean it. The weather has been fine inbetween but they must have washed it or something as there are chamois leather marks all over the car, which makes me wonder if it was dirty after their little jaunt?

This spoiled what was otherwise a very courteous and pleasant experience. The service manager was great, just a shame the lads in the garage didn't have much respect for the car or leave it in the same condition as I left it with them.:(

The trouble is, I noticed all this after I had set off, and needed to be somewhere within 20 mins otherwise I would have gone back.

What do you reckon I should do?

take it back and go home in the fiat ;)

just joshing wiv ya ;) If theres no real harm dome, I wouldn't kick up a fuss, seing as you had new brake pads for free..... a test drive should always be done by a garage after work on the brakes (I think 6 miles is a bit excessive though...)

could you set it right for the cost of some new brake pads? thats how I'd think about it, and maybe get a book and wait for it next time.........

Yeah, that's what I figured. I just thought that some of the more millitant members on the site would have suggested a different approach. The missus said pretty much the same thing as you Sharkrider, just be happy with free pads etc.

As you said, if it were a choice of going home in my slightly more used Skoda or the 1.2 Fiat......

Mind you, I wouldn't mind having a go in the 170bhp version, are you planning any trips to Scarborough soon?

lol.... you'd be suprised ;) the arbarth comes in 180bhp flavor too :) (aparantly angel could have turned mine up to 190, but it kills the clutch  )

I sometimes go over to Flamorough and Brid :)

next meet I'm at will be the new forest one down south, and people are welcome to have a go in mine if they wish :D
