vRS How much grip?

Featured Replies

Just tested a cilo 197, great car, but VERY lacking in the engine dept. It makes the right sounds, if too many of them, looks great...........MEGA GRIP in the bends..............But well frankly gutless engine.

Sure my mark 1 vRS (standard) has more get up and go.

So, the question is this does the new vRS have any more grip than the old one. I find mind is short on grip compared with any of the fast Fords or CTR that i run before.

Not a direct comparison but the MkII Elegance I used to have had MILES more grip than the MkI elegance I had before that. I can only assume the MkII vRS will be leaps ahead of it's predecessor.

Handling characteristics are way better than the MkI and with the right selection of tyres offers the ability for tremendous cornering speeds but putting power through the front wheels does mean that it will scrabble for grip if you plant your right foot, especially in the wet.

Generally more grip than you'll require other than for a track day. Having had a Focus ST2 for a week I can offer a comparison. Ultimately the Focus is better balanced, the VRS is a little more nose heavy but for road use it's not worth the call. On the 'tight winders' where the ST is a bit quicker you really don't want to be because it's too fast for the distance you can see, assuming that there is an agreement that you should be able to stop in the distance you can see to be clear. If you don't use that principle go for somehing with more grip but please don't drive behind me. ;)

Independant rear suspension means it will easliy out handle the MK1.
