Thanks for that...... had quite a steady drive back from the lake district to Newcastle.... 120 miles after making a makeshift repair to keep the pipes together...... kept rpm under 2k all the way..... soon as I got back in my street and flicked the rpm upto 2.5k it popped the pipe again :D

Saying that, still managed to get up to 70mph

I've also had some intercooler pipe burst and i drove 600 kms with no power. Did i damage the turbo with this? Im now waiting for new pipe to arrive.

Nah turbo won't be damaged, it will just check the CEL on (well it did on mine when the clip came off post FMIC fit, needed a little tightening ;)) - smoked like b*ggery when it came off, heard the turbo spinning down and that was it :o

From what I remember the ECU knows there is a fault and doesn't try to request (turbo) boost any longer until you reset the fault.

Cheers Matt, mine's just done the same! Brown trouser moment.

Have ordered the part today to get fitted tomorrow morning - does anybody know if driving it 12 miles to the nearest dealer will do any damage?

Well i drove mine about 8 miles as it was, really smokey and everyone dropping back behind me but hasnt done it any harm from what i`v noticed, 2 months later. I fitted it myself, and i have no mechanical know how at all, so if your at all handy with a spanner worth a go yourself maybe?

Matt

It's booked in at the dealer for 8am tomorrow - just want it fixed to be honest, so won't waste time by attempting to fit it myself! I will be leaving veeery early as I don't want to drag down Skoda's reputation in my local area ;)

Dreading the 12-mile drive but there's not much I can do about that.

Fingers crossed that it's just the intercooler pipe, and that the turbo is OK!!!

yeah, i drove at night when it first went, and didnt seem that bad, then the next day i needed to go tesco for some essentials (ok, booze lol) so either had half hour walk or drive, and risked it. Once your up to speed, its not too bad, but getting there is hard work lol. Fingers crossed for ya that its jus the pipe tho, let us know how it goes.

Matt

It's just VERY smokey and jerky to get up to speed. As you said, it's OK on a constant throttle.

It's a shame my exhaust is now black :( I'm pretty sure it is the pipe as the engine returned to normal smoothness when a mechanic temporarily put the pipe back on (it popped off again again after a few minutes). Can't comment on the turbo working correctly or not, though, as I was too scared to give the car any throttle. Have to say I've lost quite a bit of confidence in the car after this.

Turns out it was just the pipe, I cannot begin to tell you how relieved I am! Pipe was

hi there, i also need this intercooler pipe, how do you order the part from vagcat? i registered but cant work out how to order the part from this site? also does anyone know if you get the clip with this part as think mine is not working properly cheers for any response in advance

yeah the clip type thing is built into it, im not sure how to use vagcat, but could u not just order it from ur nearest dealer?

if you let it smoke like mad... for a couple of miles and when you get upto 50/60mph lets say it goes into limp mode so no turbo and no more smoke :)
