Cherished Plates

Featured Replies

Apologise in advance if this is the wrong place to post but can anyone tell me if you can still just turn up and wait your turn at the DVLA office in Bristol to get your personal plate transfered to a new vehicle?

Dealer is saying you cannot just turn up, you have to make an appointment and it takes over 7 days to get one.

I just want my new car and I am quite prepared to go there and wait all day if thats what is required.

when a freind of mine did his last year he just turned up and did but it would be worth giving them a call and find out

Just turn up. Thats all I've done the 3 times I've transferred mine :)

Yep, not heard of an appointment system. Wouldn't be a bad idea I reckon, IF they could allocate accurate slots for people...

I need to pay a visit to the one in Manchester - trying to pick my moment, and not really looking forward to it

Plate transfer took my dealer a month to sort out :(

It only takes time to retain plates, as above instant transfer.

Me thinks I will give DVLA a call and see if they can shed some light.

When I originally purchased the plate it had not been used before and I was fitting it to a vehicle that was already regestered, but last time and this time its a brand new vehicle that has not yet been regestered. I just wondered if there was some complexity with doing this or if I was being given false info.

Anyone out there work in new car sales?

They are probably being delayed because of getting some plates for your old motor.

If the car's not been registered before, you need DVLA form V55 as well. Whether DVLA send you that out, or the dealer needs to sort that? Not sure. I'm only reading that info from my V778 Retention Document I have here :)
