Ipod Cable, Latest Gen (5th, 5.5G) with a 56 plate VRS

Featured Replies

Hello all, I've a new ipod coming, I've got the standard Symphony (recently replaced under warranty).

Now I've fitted an under head unit storage draw so know how to get the head unit out and what bits to connect the official Skoda ipod cable (ZGB 000051 853) to.

All the pics are here, thanks Stu. Fabia-vrs.com - OEM Ipod Interface

Searching on here some people are discussing changing wires around on the connector - do I need to do this and does anyone have any further details? http://www.briskoda.net/forums/fabia/ipod-adapter-fitting-multiplug-cable-release/78630/?highlight=ipod+wire

Or is this because it's a VW lead not a Skoda one?

Cheers all

Hahaha, thats my old thread.

Yeh you have to unplug the thick brown cable from the headunit plug and plug it into the Ipod (connector's) plug. And then the loose brown wire (from the ipod connector) plugs into the headunit plug. That doesn't really make sense to me  But basically its just the same as splicing it into the power cable.

Honestly its rally pretty straight forward, especially when you have the right tool...

... a bent paper clip :D

I believe it would be the same on VW /Audi's as well.

Umm, the brown cable's just for earthing isn't it? I attached this, with a washer, to the thread sitting in the middle of the back of the HU, with the rubber grommet sitting on it?

I've done this in the 3 VAG cars I've used the IceLink with, and not had any problems. I didn't have to do any mucking about with swapping cables over.

I wasn't paying attention when I fitted mine, but I can't even remember it having a brown earth wire!?

All I know is with mine (Dension IceLink+) - bought direct, not involving a Skoda/VAG dealer, there's a brown wire. Without this earthed, the iPod won't play.

Whether people have incorporated this into existing wiring I'm not sure.

Steve

Mine's a dension and had this loose wire too. I just bent up a tab on the back of the stereo, popped the wire in place and bent it back down. A year later it's still running fine.
