L&K Spare wheel

Featured Replies

Just picked up my New L&K has 17" Sput nic wheels and the spare is a 16" steel wheel is this correct? The 17" are Bridgestone and the spare is 16" continental.

Yep that is correct, it should be a 205/55/R16 spare or something along those lines.

I had 225/45/R17's on my Pegasus wheels and it had a steelie spare as well.

I don't think the wider wheel will fit in the well IIRC. (And it's cheaper!).

The tyre will be whatever they had available at the time and the manual states you must not exceed 80km/h with the spare wheel on. Double check that figure as I don't have access to a manual.

Many thanks just the answer I needed

Have to ask the question if you can't fit a 17" wheel in the spare well what do you do with it if you have a car full of passengers with a full boot and have to use the spare?

The steel spare is 205 wide and IIRC it goes right to the top of the well and the boot floor rests on it, I don't think it will accommodate another 20mm.

As for where to put it if the car is full................

I'm sure you are right about the spare being a 16 and your reasoning is sound, but i have been in a car 5 up with a full boot.

In such a situation you would be pretty buggered if you needed to use the spare if it didn't fit back in the well.

I totally agree with you Mr. Monkhai and I have no idea where the duff 17 (or 18) inch wheel would go. Maybe it will fit but the boot floor will be on the pi$$ until the alloy is repaired.

Either way no one has thought the problem through.

I wonder how many other cars on the market have the very same problem.

Would I be correct in thinking that if you needed to use the spare then the tyre on the road wheel would usually be deflated?

If it is soft, it might fit into the recess. (Perhaps?)

The overall diameter of the wheel is not the issue, it's the width of the tyre and wheel that causes the problem, the standard 16" VEGA alloy is 205mm wide while the Pegasus, Sputnik and Zenith alloys are 225mm wide, its the height of the spare wheel well that is the stumbling block (20mm taller when on it's side in the well).

The overall diameter of a tyre doesnt change drastically when deflated due to the steel banding inside.

If your wheel is 16" and below then no problem, 17" and above? answers on a postcard please :D

So the boot floor wouldn't be flush - not very neat but not a major problem for a one off drive.

Also you could just fill the wheel well with some of your luggage and put the wheel in the boot. Just make sure you have a binliner or two in there to keep stuff clean.
