another noob wanting to convert to a fabia VRS, the only problem is i really want a yellow one which is proving quite difficult in my price range. i have found a couple but are on the other side of the country, Are skoda able to reposition cars to local dealer from around the network?

For new cars they can - mine was transferred.

For second hand cars it's not as straightforward.

if you give them cash up front they might do it, VW offered to get a Polo from Newcastle for me if I wanted it

The trouble is , would you really want to buy a car unseen?

Unless you are certain you are going to buy it the dealer probably wouldn't get it transferred across , so you'd need to go and look at it first so you may as well just buy for the dealer who has it.

Personally I'd either wait for something closer to show up or be prepared to travel

You might not get such a good deal as the dealer would be effectively buying it from the other dealer.

Vrstu and Dr Zoiberg are right,although it is all the same company each dealership(or multiples) are individually (franchises) owned and they may have taken in the vehicle over book to make the sale,these costs will be passed onto the next buyer(including transport) or on dealer transfer so i cannot help feeling it would be best for you to wait until something comes up that is closer to home.

How long does a dealer transfer usually take?

right chaps, if you want a used car transfered from one dealer to another IT IS POSSIBLE (at least i can do it!)

what we can do is look on the dealer network at all the used cars that each dealer has. if we find one that looks like its for you, we can ring them up and negoitate a deal on that car, normally theres pictures of the car on there and when we talk to the dealer in question we will ask them the condition of the car. if it turns up here looking nasty we will take that up with the suppiling dealer of course. but remember, they are USED cars so will not be totally perfect

transfer time will very. if we are sending a driver up then we will know straight away how long. if its coming by truck then it might have to be a estimated time, but it shouldnt be longer than a week or two.

BTW ive just looked and i can see 6 yellow fabia vrs on there, ranging from 12,500 ish to 13,700ish. all 2006 models HTH
