Creaks Are Getting Worse

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I posted on here a few months ago about creaking suspension (OCTY VRS ESTATE) when going over speed humps. Since then I have been to my local dealer about the problem, and after an initial "they all do that" fob off (GRRRR!!!) they recognised the sound, took both legs off the front, checked everything was tight and sent me on my merry way with no improvement at all.

The car is booked in again next week because not the creaks are there almost constantly over bumpy roads and particularly when braking to a standstill. Whatever is making the noise is making it when the car is pitching forwards, and when turning sharp left (RHD problem then). It sounds like a squeaking bush (the rubber type ;-)) although I was told by the dealer that the wishbone bushes are sealed and cannot be got to.

This (and other niggly problems which make the car rattle and shake like a south london miinicab driver's nissan bluebird) is really beginning to drive me nuts. Could we be barking up the wrong tree with suspension - could it be engine mounts that are making the noise??

The only good thing is the irritating rattle from the rear seat catches was fixed by my dealer apparently by "tightening them". Not sure what they did but could find out precisely next week if anyone is interested.

Anyone got any further forwards with the creaking suspension?

Cheers Olly,

PS on the would I buy another Octavia thread, the answer from me is a resounding NO!

I bought a second hand one a month ago and it creaked on speed bumps etc from the start. Last Thursday Skoda at Bradford changed the bushes and it's cured.

It had been stood for a while on the forecourt before being sold so I'd assumed they'd dried out. So if they are sealed and can't be changed I've not got a clue what on earth my garage has done!

Hi thanks for your response - that sounds encouraging.

Would you mind if I asked Skoda Bradford what they did myself? You could PM me if you do not wish to share your details on the forum at [email protected]

Cheers

Olly

Mine is in yet again for a complete suspension strip-down.

It's been creaking for about 10 months now

any idea what they are going to do once it's stripped??

Look confused , probably.

It went to the supplying dealer about half a dozen times and they claimed to have greased it , replaced the bushes at the top of the suspension and so on.

Eventually they stopped returning my phone calls.

It went to a different dealer a few weeks ago and they agreed that it is creaking and that it's not right at all but couldn't see what was causing it so they have it in for two days to strip everything down and investigate thoroughly.

Doc can you tell me if your one creaks once warmed up? Mine only does it when cold.

Ours creeks, and probably will creek even more now that it more or less sits on the drive, well has done for nearly four weeks now....must remember to take it out once in a while...oh, hum:rolleyes:

It's a lot worse when cold but will still creak when warm. After a very long drive it's quiet or on a really hot day.

It's continued to get louder since I bought it , though bizarrely it had stood on the drive for nearly a month while I was on holiday and was silent for the first few days driving.

 If they were as good at fixing the problem as they are at trying to fob people off then everyone would be happy

Funny, when mine when into Garage in Jan the Wishbone Bushes were lubed, it did improve for about 2months.

The main way I found to simulate it was to accelerate coming off a speed ramp, seems worse when suspension is compressing

I'd love to hear about that one, AFAIK there was no adjustment on them  , well so I was told. I was alos told the factory are looking into it.

The last time I spoke to the distributor here one of the guys in the office had same issue, bascially I was told to get any lubricant that is suitable for plastics and rubbers sprayed onto the area.

Again if you have any luck with either of above will you let me know

  • 2 weeks later...

Mine is getting a Skoda area technical manager out to look at it next thursday as it's not been fixed this week

Hi, my dealer has been told (by Skoda Technical I believe) to take the suspension top mounts off and regrease the bushes which they have done. It has cured, they say (I have not picked the car up yet), the offside creaking noise but now now they can hear a nearside creak. At least they have admitted that it's "not right" and so the car is booked in again! in two weeks time.

At least they are pleasant to deal with.

Will keep you all posted.

Keep us updated mine is in yet again for this yet again.

Seems to go away for the garage.

Mine has had the bushed replaced already - no different - and had it regreased this week - no difference.

Whereabouts in the country are the other people with creaks?

I'd like to see if it's the same as mine if possible.

Mine seems to come and go depending on the weather, its very hard to pin point exactly where its coming from, theres days I could swear its coming from the rear :) Keep us updates chaps on how you both get on as I'm gonna have to drop in again about this.
